I am looking for an outboard replacement for my Skeeter fish and ski. Must be a 150-200. I currently have a mercury XRI 200 EFI on the boat and would like something that the controls would not have to be changed. Or looking for someone in the Cincinnati area that can rebuild my motor for a reasonable price. I would even be willing to pay someone to help me with the rebuild. I can do the motor work, i am just lery about the electronics and why my motor burned up to begin with. It is a 95 xri, efi. Fresh mercury built replacement powerhead was installed in 2012. Motor has less than 40 hours on rebuild, but is out of warranty now. Port side middle cylinder burned up. The oil injection has been removed and is straight premix. i can see where the head gasket blew on the bottom cylinder on the port side, but didn't do any damage. Please PM me if you know someone that can help. I have gotten quotes from local shops and i just cannot see spending 9K on a motor that is already 21 years old. Thanks for your help in advance.
To me it appears that water is the culprit for the failure. If anyone has another reason please let me know. If i do decide that a rebuild is my most economical option i don't want the same thing to take out my new powerhead if it was not water.
