View Full Version : 9amp to 16amp stator. Do switchboxes need to be changed?
Guys,
I am going to upgrade the 9amp stator on my 81 225 Merc to a 16amp stator with a voltage regulator. Do I also have to change the switchboxes? p/n on the switchboxes is 322-7778A1 or do they stay the same?.
Thanks!

No changing necessary. The windings that power the ignition are seperate from the one that runs the charging system.
Thanks Capt.Insano!
Youve been a great help with all my questions lately.
Much Appreciated!!!

Does the stater and rectifier need to be changed when you go from a fishing motor set-up (green or red flywheel) to a light weight flywheel?

Cool,
I have heard both ways,
I heard if you don't change them, you will eventually burn out the stator/rectifier.
What say ya'll???

Been using the same stator and rectifier from a fish motor with a HP light flywheel since 86,sound like it last ok to me.:)

Dave,
You may have just saved me $150.00
You don't think I should get it "just in case"?
I have a stack of "fishing motor stators"
The flywheel I am getting is a 16 amp.
