Reed thickness - How does it affect performance?

How do thicker or thinner reeds affect performance? Do they change hole shot or top end?

Generally speaking the higher the rpm the stiffer material necessary to get the reeds to close without crankcase pressure slamming the tips of the reeds,damaging them.Softer reeds open easier and provide better bottom end and mid range,but rely on cc pressure to close them at higher rpm's,resulting in reflux and short reed life,Chris
