A friend of mine has a 2004 200L EFI Merc. Yesterday whilst on the river the alarm beeper was intermittently sounding and the engine would lose power. The engine had plenty of water pressure and was not over heating and the oil bottle had plenty of oil in it. What else would make the alarm beep.
My thoughts would be maybe there was a bit of water in the fuel... Anyone else got any thoughts?????

Four beeps every 2 mins means oil level low, or water in fuel filter. Drain the filter to check it. May be the oil level sensor giving a false warning. The float gets oil soaked and sinks causing the alarm. Fairly common on older motors. The test is to jump the blue and black wires at the tank sensor. Disconnect from tank, hook them together on the motor side with a jump wire and see if the alarm goes away.

Could a sick battery also cause the 4 beeps every 2 mins?
