1987 Merc claimed 378 lb for the 2L 150
OMC claimed 381 for the same year 150GT
buy the one in the best condition. These are old motors.

What's the weight difference on these motors to 175hp, 200hp, 225hp? Lots of these out there to chose from.

Im an omc guy but i really think that the merc is a better engine for that boat, larger rpm window.

The XP/GT has a lot of low-end grunt, but runs out of breath much over 5800. It's closer to a 175 than a 150: really puts out close to 165 hp.

Whats wrong with the v4 that came on the boat? As for the engine choice bone stock its a wash but the small bore xflows run for ever. If you go merc all the hp stuff is out there but everyone thinks its gold, for the johnson gonna have to do it all your self but it can be done on the cheap and there are tons of crossflow parts out there for next to nothing. 2.5L Merc 175 and 200 weigh the same, more or less 400 lb claimed.
225 Promax was a bit lighter, revs higher, has a hi performance gear case, solid mounts.
i even spent my own money on a Promax, so I can recommend you buy one. Again with the warning, these are old motors.

The Xr-2 2l 150 merc would be the faster of the two engines on that boat. It has less torque but will pull way more rpm and is snappier.
On on a heavier rig the gt would be faster.
You can prolly find any of the 2.4 or 2.5l 200 mercs pretty cheap as well and don't way a noticeable amount more.
