I have not seen this photo before. I'm asking the question for the zillionth time on S&F. Those engine cowls look too fat and boxy to be T1 cowls. They look like "hybrid" T2's or something Reggie made himself?

I have not seen this photo before. I'm asking the question for the zillionth time on S&F. Those engine cowls look too fat and boxy to be T1 cowls. They look like "hybrid" T2's or something Reggie made himself?

Okay, so let me make sure I have your comment correct...........you're saying they are T2's............and T2s had a one piece drop on cowl bucket, not a sheet metal "wrap" like the T1's did. As far as I know, then Reggie Fountain was the only owner/driver who ran a 21 ft twin Moli with T2's (Tillotson 6 carb and 1 piece bucket cowl).

Hi Bill ... Definitely running TII's. There is no mistaking those cowls with the air holes on the top front.

I am thinking that they are TIIX's because the TII's had the hold down hood pins on the top of the cowl to hold it down and I do not see those. The TIIX's had the rubber pull downs that held the cowl to the belly pan and I think I can see those on those engines. But then again....maybe I am the one seeing things...:eek:

This confirms the 1974 Merc Catalog shot of Reggie's #76 running TIIs. I'm betting that Reggie was the only owner / driver who ran twin TIIs on a Glastron Molinari. Probably had something to do with the factory teams focusing on single engine rigs but Garbrecht still wanting Reggie to run the twin for PR purposes.

Lake X 1960 had to be self-sufficient in power and water. My Dad, and our family, moved there in the fall season of 1959. Steve Siros in his descriptive photo did not identify a crucial building. I will call it the utility building.
Lake X was three miles from highway 441, and the nearest house then was two miles from Lake X. There was no electrical power lines reaching out to the remote rural location know as
Mercury Lake X.
This little insignificant block building was significant; it supplied modernity to Lake X. The generator that supplied electricity to the shop, office, and residences was housed in this utility building. Fresh water to drink and bath pumped from the utility room. And also there was a washer and dryer in the building, were people like my Mother went to wash our family’s clothes. This utility building was the “little engine that could”.

The original first edition Twisters (not Twister 1's) were red striped. These were a very limited production. The Twister 1's that followed and the Twister II's were blue striped.

First time I was at Lake X was in 1959. I knew your dad, Bill and Steve, in fact that was when I met Steve, Your dad wanted me to be an instructor at his school, Chuck Mersereau and Charlotte and Denny lived near by. I forgot the daughters name, Johnny Bakos was also a friend, I think Joe Anderson was running the lake and George Thompson was EC's right hand man. Also met Bobby Walwork as we were picking up a couple Raveaus from Marcel. I got his fishing boat that was on top of his car with a Merc 400.. Everyone was so nice and friendly.. We were eating in the little restaurant, Mr. K was there with his dog. I was with Phil and Rosemary Young as I worked for him and took care of his fleet of Raveaus. I was done eating and wanted to go outside and look around and Mr.K came out with his dog and started talking to me. I was scared to death. First time I ever saw him and he was right in front of me.. THE MAN!! Talking to me like we were friends. I was only 17. Well I won a lot of races for him and whenever he saw me he would say hello and thank me for a good race result.
I do have a question for you, where was the mysterious wood shop that was off limits? I heard the Entrop Hydro was in there and was dying to see and touch it. Never did. When Chuck died I was in the Marines and on a ship. After Vietnam we were stationed in Oceanside Ca. We called Charlotte and went by to see her. Denny was there too, and getting to be a bigger guy.. He had a truck and was fixing it up. Had a great chat with him while Treasure and Charlotte chatted..
Your dad was always a good friend to me and I admired him.

The hydrofoils look like they are too close to the stern. I think they need to be mounted more forward, closer to the bow. Otherwise it is going to have a tendency to pitch forward, and stuff the nose.
I put some Yellow lines, where I believe the CG area is located on this boat.

No, simply putting the word "racing" on motors is marketing without having to spend money on racing. MAJOR budget savings. I'm certain that 90%+ of the Mercs sold with "Racing" on them never see a white flag.

Pretty much like every Mercury lower unit I have worked on since 1965.
All the fancy electronic shifting but is still boils down to the same old dog clutch.
