The last straw for Carl Kiekhaefer on his decision to halt his involvement with auto racing, was that he was told he could no longer advertise his outboards on his teams race cars as "Mercury"outboards, but only as "Kiekhaefer" outboards...due to "Mercury" Ford car product confusion the fans might have. I am guessing 64 or 65. I ran in 64 in my family boat with my Dad and 66 in my CurtisCraft. I am pretty sure Tom was not in the 66 race.

gene, when i got it from tom, it had no engine. i think i bought boat only. i think it looks like a '63/'64 engine in picture. i first ran it with mk40 as i was running a lot of back yard races where i ran 25 horsepower class. i then bought a merc450, then i bought a merc500 in '65 as i was running more apba races.

Looks like the Raveau copy Tom built. He didn't round off the bow. Boat was black and wood. Very well built. I saw it at Mt Dora in the early 2000's. He was displaying with Bobby Walwork.

You should know better than me Jim, I was gone from 64 to 68 then too poor to have a race boat. I didn't see Toms boat until about 2005. What is this one then? It sure looks like the one I described. I have a picture of it somewhere.

I saw the boat that Tom brought to Mt Dora up there. Tom told me he had completely rebuilt the hull. In 1965 after I came home from the Army I went to a race at the Stadium. The E class had a full field of boats. All but one of them were Raveaus. One Madcap in the field. A year later when I was running E class in my CurtisCraft the only one left was Chuck Saunders and he had converted it to a V-bottom.

My wife's cousin has the second boat out of that mold. Action Marine built the mold and I worked on it. We built several boats out of that mold. Eventually a former Action employee bought the mold set and formed Paramount.

Pro kicker prop - made to push 21' walleye barges around in currents. I tried for years to get MM to make a SS version just for the looks it would make on the transom alongside its SS big brother wheel on the main engine. Walleye guys would buy it just for the look! If you ever see a walleye guy's tacklebox - they will buy anything!

Walleye guys do troll in reverse - in some water conditions they have to keep thier baits almost motionless, and dragging the transom in reverse brings the boat speed down to almost nothing.
