That was a kneel down boat with no power trim. Albert got hurt pretty badly in that one and never raced again afterward.

I built a SE/SD marathon boat for myself in 1969. I have to admit it was not pretty but it was brutally efficient. Never failed to finish a race and never finished worse than 3rd.

One more. Friend here north me built a Mahogany old school woodie. Had "Doc Frankenmerc" close me build him a 1000 FGS for it. Lotta work..(ok, dedication both). Sent him a prop to check as wanted to hit 60 mph. SCREW that 58/9 crap! Finally did it, (I'll have to search the great vid showing it all), but summer going static (trailer, as salt water there) to wooden boat show, PT Townsend, Straights Juan De Fuca. But just sent me and the Doc T shirts..for thanks the help..what else.."Inlines Forever"

We Raveau boys and girls were warned by Roy R. that it was pretty fast and would probably tear us up. We went to the next race and there it was. Don't remember the driver, but I think it was in Sarasota. Olegator may remember where and the boat but he doesn't want to remember that race. Anyway we smoked him..bad.

Montgomery, Roy Taylor

Some might remember that Roy got tossed in jail at Chattanooga over protesting some OMC V8's, if I remember right.

Roy Taylor Montgomery, 75, passed away on Friday, March 31st, 2017 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin, Indiana.

Roy was born on January 23rd, 1942 in Spencer County, Indiana to the late Robert and Enda Mae (Eigenmann) Montgomery. He married his wife, Kathryn Rover, on June 6th, 1964, celebrating fifty-two years of marriage together. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Karyn (James) Todor; son, Robert (Allison) Montgomery; granddaughters, Kaylin and Emily Todor; and Isabella, Zoe and Eliana Montgomery; and sister, Roberta Zimmermann. Roy was preceded in passing by his parents and five siblings.

From his humble beginnings as a farm-boy attending a two-room schoolhouse in Spencer County, Indiana, Roy went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1963 and his Law Degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1966.

While at Purdue, Roy was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He worked at Mercury Marine World Headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for thirty years, supervising the seven-person law department and advancing to Vice President of Government and Industry Relations. He was respected internationally as a leader in the boating industry. Roy was particularly proud to lead the industry in standards development for outboard motor emissions, working directly with the EPA on this issue. He also played a key role in establishing four manufacturing joint ventures in Japan and China. Roy served as a member of the National Boating Safety Advisory Council from 1988 to 1994, and was the chairman of the National Marine Manufacturing Association in 1995. He retired from Mercury Marine in 2002.

Roy and his beloved wife Kathryn lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for forty years. Roy served the community as the YMCA president from 1978-1979, was on the Board of Directors of St. Agnes Hospital from 1988-1994, was on the City Council from 1993-1999, and was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. His greatest joys were watching his family's athletic andmusical endeavours. He was an avid golfer and a fierce competitor in tennis. After moving to Franklin, Roy loved cheering on his five granddaughters. He also played tournament bridge with the Columbus and Indianapolis Bridge Clubs, falling just a few points short of his goal of becoming a Life Master. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he and Kathryn enjoyed the Senior Lunch Bunch group.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with calling on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin

Yes. A lot of the prep work on the Kiekhaefer cars was done in Orlando. Hagoods wound up with a lot of the equipment bought for the prep work. Like a new South Bend lathe and drill press and a Sun distributor machine and more that slips my mind rite now. Tommy was the one that hooked up Tim Flock and the old man. Tommy and Jerome were personal friend with Mr. K. Their brother Ralph worked as an engineer for Mercury. I was at that race. I watched the race from the sand dunes about 200 yard to the left of wher this pic was taken from. This car won the race, but was not near fast enough to keep up with Fireball in the Fish Carburetor Buick. Fireball was DQ'ed for altered pushrods, but the real reason Fireball won was because he consistantly ran 100+ yards deeper into the south turn.

Just had a talk with Bob W. about this - says at the time of this BHB they also were doing a similar Raveau. Says it took several tries but the Raveau came out on top speed wise.

Post 5854 shows the Raveau with Craig DeWald driving and his wife. He and Marcel were pretty close. Craig held the AU record at 49 mph for about 25 years in a Raveau, if I remember correctly. On Jan 7, 1961 Marcel surprised me with my co driver for the first 6 Hour race at Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee. He said my co driver and also for Richie Baiz was going to be a surprise. Sure was. He was one of my idols. We set three endurance records that day. He drove my first two hours, got out and drove the middle two for Richie. I drove the last four. We won both classes. Very nice guy. After the race the three of us were deciding what to do, Craig said let's get some beer and ribs..We did just that, and I was only 18. In fact I don't think any of us were legal, but we looked so grubby the bartender couldn't tell..
