I have a 2000 optimax 225 with just under 100 hrs. It idles perfect but stalls when you give it gas to take off and eventually dies. I just replaced fuel diaphragm in rail with no real change, other than an easier start. All injectors have been checked and are good, new plugs and fuel filter. VST was just cleaned due to water in fuel and tanks drained with new fuel. I can not figure this one out, any and all help appreciated!

I have a 1999opti with similar issues. In my case the engine would start quite well then the idle would start to deteriorate until the engine quit. It seemed to be richening out. By using the manual lever to increase the idle for start, the engine would start again and perform the same sequence. By putting the engine into gear immediately after the start I was able to get away from the dock (no way to live). I found a small hole in the fuel regulator diaphragm. Finding parts was expensive. With three used (look like new) diaphrams I am ready to test again in early spring. I hope I have better luck with my fix than you. Have you checked the pressure balance of the two rails?

I bought a new to me bass boat in 2013 with a 2000 Opti 225. I had same problem and found Mercury uses steel reeds. Very bad. If they come loose, they can damage powerhead. Miraculously, I had a few chipped but didn't hurt engine. Replaced with TDR reeds. Idled much better and very throaty mid range.
