Is the 2002 Mercury 200XS a good motor? What kind of hp are we talking at the propshaft? Reliable? Fuel economy? Parts availability?

Several guys on here have the Gen 1 200XS and will chime in. I'm not sure though if one has ever been put on a dyno with printouts to get a real number.

I think they are very close to advertised HP. Fuel efficient.

Some say that the Gen 1 200XS Opti is almost 50% more fuel efficient compared to the same year 225X EFI across a full days use.

I will bet it doesn't use less fuel than my 225X.....:nonod:

I have owned a bunch of Merc motors over the years and my xs is by far the best of the bunch as an all around motor. Good performance and incredible economy. Mine has around a 100 hours or so and runs like a champ.

i have a gen 2, 2004. it gets 7.4 mpg and was dino ed at over 200 close to 220hp, by bass and walleye mag, in 2004, they put it on a 20' allison and got the same results. there was some fixes to the gen 1 in the gen 2 [2004] to make it more reliable. my 200xs on a 20' voyager gets the 7.4 mpg and 80 mph recorded by gps thru a smatrcraft system.

I pulled the trigger on the 2002 200XS. I'm hoping it will push my Mirage Jaguar 85-90mph.

Should push it that fast easy. I run over 90 in my bassboat.
