I recently purchased what I thought was a 1978 Mercury 2000 2.4. I'm having trouble finding any info on it when I try and search the vin numbers on it. I've tried the ones on the block and mid section. I would like to try an copy T-Rex's or wrenchin2s build of a 2.4. Am I capable of doing so with this block. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. Brad

Thanks for the reply Texas feel free to chime in I'm new to this and am open to any suggestions ideas. The Pistons I have look like a set wrenchin2 cut. If all is worth while with this block I plan on running vertex or wsm Pistons drilling and squaring them

On the first generation chrome bores,be sure to check cylinders for roundness. It would not surprise me if you found them to be as much as .005 out of round. In all honesty,If you could pick up a 83up finger ported block and heads, and use all of your other stuff you would be way ahead for not much money.JMO

I've been keeping an eye out for one in the classifieds on here and found one a month or so ago but forgot what post it was under. I need to put 2 sleeves in mine and if I could find a half decent block I'd definitely pick it up as of now I'm just workin with what I have

two sleeves would cost around 500.00 plus depending on who did the work advance sleeves are oh so much better then la this is not a good project block sorry i just threw on away that only needed one sleeve it was a 86 model

I may have one only needing one sleeve and has the better head bolt pattern that you can have. If you are interested I will check on it tomorrow.

Without a doubt Rock I'm definitely interested. As far as machining I work in a machine shop I'm not a machinest but I do powder coat for them. If interested I could powder some things for the block and I'll pay for shipping. Thanks for the advice and please keep it coming

As far as the sleeves go should I look for a steel bore from advance. Any specific type as far as ports? I know they're diffrent from bridgeports

Are your plans to put 6 steel sleeves or just the holes that are not acceptable. I do have a block you can have.

I was considering doin all 6 but idk if I want to put that much money into the block I have seeing how outdated it is and I'm a little concerned about the head gasket issues ppl are talking about with the first gen blocks. Let me know what I need to do as far as shipping and $ for your block.

The reason I ask is I have a couple blocks and the black one is , I think, a 200. You put in 6 225 sleeves, horizontal front, and a little massage of the exhaust and you will have a very strong runner. The other block is gray and i am sure it is a 175. Either will work and you can have either but the 175 block has better looking chrome than the 200 and might still need 2 sleeves. You do not have to worry about the head bolt issues on this block as it has the better bolt pattern.
