Does anyone around the LI, NY area know what shops are charging for a rebuild on a 2.0 Merc 150? I've been searching for a 2.4 complete running motor but even 25 year old motors are going for at least $2,000-$3000 with god knows how many hours on them. I'm just curious what rebuilds are going for since I have a 150 parts motor that is seized from sitting. Does anyone do budget hone and re-ring or is that frowned upon? I may try to tear this down myself and see if I can free up the pistons. I bought it seized - supposedly from sitting only a month...
Thanks.

They have some that get sold pretty cheap. Look in the buy and sell and go a few pages. Seem em go from 1800 to 500 to 750. I would think you could get one for under 1000

I'm on the lookout for a 2.4 200 fishing motor anywhere from the 80's to 90's, need 20". There's stuff on CL cheap but usually you have to take a garbage hull and trailer to get the motor lol. I don't see much on this site under a $1000, I'd prefer not to get into a powerhead swap - I'd rather just bolt a motor on and go. I'm in no rush, trying to get a motor for a Valero hull I just bought - won't be ready till next season.

I don't even have it listed cause it's a good backup motor. But if someone is in a jam I will sell it!

Hmmm thanks for the replies...I just may take you up on that. I have a 2.0 150 on my other boat and was hoping to score a 2.4 200 and move my 150 to the Valero but its a good deal. I just looked at my parts motor before and there's some slop in the l/u prop shaft so I'm not sure that's even any good ( i bought it for the ignition components CHEAP). I'll let you know - Thanks! BTW where in CT?
