I am trying to separate the powerhead from the mid on a 1995 175. It's been fighting me for hours. I have the 4 bolts on the outside of the mid removed, the 4 inside the cowling, and the 2 under the tiller. In desperation i just started taring the power head down and all that's left is the block, crank, and lower section of the block. Even have the pistons out. The lower section of the block (intake behind the reeds) is lose at the top, but tight at the bottom.
Any advice?? Where can I safely pry?
Thanks,
Chris

Finally got it apart by hanging from the bucket of my tractor, and bouncing the bucket a few times.

For the next time . . . remove the nuts on the long studs and lossen the front nuts. Place pieces of flat bar stock under the rear nuts and back them off 1/2 turn at a time. If it's really stuck you can sacrifice long studs by heating the aluminum around the studs and hitting the studs with a air chisel to shake out the aluminum oxide. Some el cheapo 9/16" wreches ground down will help too.
