If you have a way to lift or hang your boat, I've found these inexpensive scales from Northern Tool to be quite handy. I'm posting this because they are on sale right now, and figure with winter lurking my S&F brothers are scheming how to make their boats lighter or set-ups better!:D

I'm in the middle of a resto of my 23 Daytona, and bought 3 of these this summer. I checked them against much more expensive units we use at work, and they were within a 1/2 pound on 1000! Close enough for me. Sorry for the fuzzy pics.

The boat weighed 1540 with no engine or interior, but dual cable steering and two fuel tanks. With all rigging, tanks, and wood removed, it now weighs 770. What I don't have pictured is the 3rd strap in the rear, suspended from a single scale. As I get further along with this project, I'll have to make up a couple of yokes to be able to suspend it safely with added weight, so as not to crush the sides. It's light enough now it doesn't hurt it. It does help that I can roll it under the hoist and lift it, but I think people here are creative enough to figure out how to do it other ways and still be accurate.

One last thing, if you shop around for Northern Tool discount codes, they can be had even cheaper! I believe I got mine for around $160 to my door in 2 days in July 2015.

Hope this helps!

I'm bumping this because I don't know how long the sale is on. I guess I thought there would be at least some interest. The fact that they are cordless is pretty nice, too.

I think they're cool... I just don't really need them. I think one would be enough, and would probably get used once in awhile for other things, but 3 would be more convenient for weighing the boat.

Yeah, I certainly get that. If I still had my V-king I'd only have one or two, but this will require 3 when fully rigged and fuel.

We are going to use two on for CG'ing my buddy's Allison. I have several Excel spreadsheets that use the weight of every component and where it is placed in relation to the transom and calculates the CG before you ever bolt anything down. This is helpful in figuring out placement of items when you are fresh or re-rigging a boat.

Thanks for the heads-up. I have a lift in my garage and I would love to know how much my Cougar really weighs, there is no info on the weight probably because it is old 1999.
