GMC 702ci V12

In the 1960's GM put out 5000 702ci V12 engines for various extreme duty jobs ,from military mobile missile launchers to airport fire truck to big KW generators etc. These twinned V6 engines also have hot rod appeal, although weight is a concern. Mild modern rebuilds put out crazy torque at low rpm and can turn 5000. This one put out 1200 at 2000rpm. Hp is somewhere in the 400-500 range. With a little boost , and keeping the RPM under 5000 the numbers would be crazy. Something to look at but most likely never tried in a larger hull.

This reminds me of the V12 flathead my friend has in a 1936 firetruck. 4 two barrels- 2 plugs per cyl- 2 distributors and waterpumps! What a rod motor or in a custom woodie!!! These unique engines are true pieces of art in my opinion. Gary

They are nice to look at. These 702's were built to last, reading up on it, they ran at near top speed in some application for staggering hours ,100,000 ++ . The shop that builds and sells them claims only 200 examples know to remain. At idle it makes more torque than most street engines today.In the right hull, with proper prep and forced induction , interesting.

The hell of it is I remember those.We had one in a snow plow(military surplus)at the airport.Spark plugs on the wrong (intake)side of the heads,just didn't seem right.But the tork,UNBELEAVABLE!

With that much torque , a super tall final drive and pitch with maybe a powerglide type trans with even a tall first gear.
