I have a 2009 Triton Explorer with a 90 hp Merc on the back. With a 19 pitch laser 2 prop I am getting 45 mph with a light load. My goal is 50 mph. I tried a 21 pitch but cannot spin it fast enough to get my extra speed.
Which brings me to my question, what can I do to this motor to get a few more hp out of it, so I can spin that bigger prop? I,ve seen performance kits for other manufactures on 90 hp engines, but not Mercury.
I have been told to buy a 115, but that is out of the question. Can anyone here, help me out, and give me some options. Thank you in advance.

45 with a 19" is great!
It all comes down to setup with the little motors.
My '93 90 will run 52 with the 22 laser, mid height,
and 58 with a 26 chopper jacked up.
The 26 cleaver run 60+ when everything is just right.

I don't have a jack plate so I was running the 21 pitch the same height of the 19 . Should I try raising the engine and try the 21 again.

If the 21 pitch doesn't do the trick, is there a way to get more power from this engine.

No easy way, as the block and head are casted in one piece.
A 90 hp Yamaha or Tohatsu is the ticket if you want to modify the engine.

Does anyone know if a 115 power head will bolt to a 90 exhaust plate and mid?. I had Chaz build a really trick 90 merc with a 15 in midsection for my sons 15 whaler and we are just about to rig it. Just thinking ahead for the next step!

I have put a 115 on a 90 mid. The lower unit is a different ratio from the 3cylinder to the 4cylinder I don't remember what they were maybe 2.0 and 2.30
