Hey guys I'm playing around with a smilin jacks intake in a 2.5 260. Had tony re curve my acu but still can't get the bottom end to be clean. Like I'm not getting good vacuum to the ecu. Smokes like a you no what, burns fuel like crazy. Any ideas are appreciated. I have read that they don't produce good vacuum and I understand why but are they are ways around it or any fixes? Thanks

In racing we use vacuum pumps to manually control the vacuum to the ecu but it's not at all practical for a lake boat

Is there any other ways to do it? With the pump do you go straight to the ecu? Or is the horn just more practical? I like to try different setups and top end seems pretty good with it. Thanks

The pump goes straight to the ecu. In racing we're pretty much idling or wide open so it's not a big deal. The horn is an awfully good intake setup and very hard to beat

Got it. Thanks for info. I really appreciate it. If you don't mind me asking what kind of pump do you use? And if it goes straight to the ecu how does it shut off when you go wide open?

There's a microswitch under the pedal that releases the vacuum using a Mercury choke solenoid.

Would the same issues be seen on the mad efi system?
There was a guy on fb high performance boats...he rigged something up on his river boat with mad efi....not sure if that would help

just asking
but would it be possible to glue a felt layer on the inner plate to help seal the slide plate against the inner plate? and improve vacuum
offcourse with a fuel proof glue :)

I wish there was a good way to get some vacuum out of this thing.im going to experiment some more before I give up

What about a small electric vacuum pump in the boat that is plumbed to the vacuum block on top of the intake? Maybe it would get a better reading and then it would bleed off as the intake opens?

vacuum is horrible on a smiling jacks u will have to re do bottom end of ur fuel curve to clean it up.if not going to run vacuum pump i would run a horn its alot more practical

Yeah. I agreeing with you guys. I had tony recurve my spare acu but it is still far far from good let alone great. No body else came up with any other fixes?

You can get around it to a large degree by remapping the ecu again. If I had to guess he needs to be working in the 130-140 kpa range. Problem is you lose stations to transition up to the top numbers of 156-160 kpa when you start so high. Tony should be able to do a lot if he knows the vacuum you have while idling, probably 130 kpa. All of this is just to bandaid an intake that doesn't work well for anything but racing on a vacuum pump

Good to know! I also just noticed on the top of the intake there are 2 different ports to plug the ecu line into. I might have been on the wrong one. There is one with a big hole and one with a tiny hole like the horn has. Maybe it was something. Maybe not?

Also how much better is the vacuum signal the svs makes over the jacks? Is the svs a better intake?
