My '96 Merc 200EFI runs great in the morning. After sitting at the dock for any duration, it will stall as I idle away. I've tackled the issue from a fuel perspective after finding debris stuck in the pump check valve & water separator. Replaced pump, filter, & all fuel lines.
Recent mechanic suggested replacing the stator even though it passed the resistance test. I noticed R increases w temp but always stayed btwn 3.7-3.9kohms for low rpms.

My Q: how can I know for certain that my stator needs to be replaced?
i don't own a DVA but heard I could convert average V to peak V by multiplying by sqrt2. Should I test peak V while under load?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I would order a VOM DVA they are cheap on amazon.its fun troubleshooting and very gratifying when you troubleshoot properly and isolate prob.one of my pet peeves that really strikes a nerve is when you are not 100% positive that you isolated prob.but buy part anyway to find out it isn't prob:(

Math conversion assumes a sine waveform, which it usually isn't. Peak is peak. You need a meter that stores and displays the peak voltage.

Thanks guys. I will buy a DVA on Amazon and proceed from there.
