Nice Vulture; they are definitely cool boats.
That skeg-like fin I have never seen before on any Hydrostream. Can you post some photos of how it's attached to the bottom?

I'm wondering if there is any advantage to having a skeg on a Vulture. Mine turns sharp enough and bites at any speed. Maybe if you were running a course with a lot of tight turns.

That's awesome that you found one with re-core and new transom. That's the rare part! I'd love to see some interior pictures.

I agree with getting it off the rollers. I see this is not your only Hydrostream, so you know how roloers can effect the bottom of the boat.

What kind of power and setback is on it?

Thanks,
Bill

Looks rally nice mark. the angle plates where pretty common on those, never seen a skeg on any straam either. Back then the dealers where doing some pretty wild stuff though , who knows. Not sure about the skeg, try it I guess easy enough to fill and lose it if you dont like it. I would think it could catch and do more damage than good with the power you are probably going to put on it, my Beaverton 2 c cents anyway lol. Boat looks REALLY clean.

Wow! it's in really nice shape. Nothing like loading it up with lots of teenagers and doing some skiing. I'm heading up to the lake tonight and will be pulling barefooters all weekend. Can't wait to get up there.

My 1980 vulture had side pieces inside the cock pit, beside the front seats, that went to the floor, they were part of the deck, yours do not I noticed.Or does it? My 1978 did not come with them. Got them both new. Just saying. I would think if that skeg is in the middle of the pad it will disrupt the water flow to the prop causing prop ventilation at high speed. I would think boat was built for skiing. I bare footed and salmon skied behind mine and a good skier could pull them around a bit.

yes it has the side pieces that connect the deck to the hull just can't see them in the pics . i agree with you on the skeg . i removed it cause i'm afraid of ripping it off . it was there for a while thats all i can say it was held in there with8 21/2" stainless screws and took me about 2 hrs to remove . and then clean up some type of bonding agent that i think came from outer space. holy what a job . the gel under that skeg is like brand new

I had one of the first, if not the first, Vulture's made('77 model built in late '76), and my 1980, the deck to floor tie in's like you mentioned, and the recessed cleats are a sure sign it's a later "Big Bird"

I have a ? I seen like 3 Hydrostream's that have the deep pad that hangs down. What is the alum plates for ? They look like they were factory installed or dealer ?

I'm jealous of your AE-21! I love those boats so much!

I would love it if you posted pics of the Vulture resto; those are my favorite types of threads and they are most helpful to other members.
The Vulture has always been a bit of an enigma for me - they are just so cool and so looooooong and I remember somebody here locally that had a V8 on one. I always wondered how well they could me made to perform. I've never personally seen one run going all-out, so I've always been curious. I know there are a number of very fast Vultures around for sure.

I also wondered specifically what those little pad fins on each side of the pad are for. Do they increase lift? I've seen a those on a number of Vultures.

I also love the color - those 'earth tones' were so popular around that time and I think it looks fantastic. So cool that you also have the original engine on it too! Thanks again for posting and good luck with the new boat!

I think those fins are there to break up a vacuum that builds up in the transom notch
