I recently made the decision to purchase a set of custom cylinder heads from Galen Burden. Part of the Houston contingent of O\B hotrodders and one of the better machinists\fab guys I haev seen yet....
He built me a set of heads that are incredible. I have included some pics and I must say if you want the best heads on the market for Merc or OMC.... Galen is your man. Super nice guy, answered all of my questions and gave me gret service to boot....
Thanks Galen.

hemi-styled, O-ringed heads for less than a set of new 'Drag' heads and gaskets from Mercury....
Yeah...guess which way I went....
Here you can see the cooling chambers behind the removable cylinder chamber. Tear up a piston and beat up the head??? Not a problem. Call Galen and get another chamber sent right out....
Problem solved...good as new....

enough to send me 12 o-rings and the part # and packing slip from where he gets them. What a guy....
I had him anodize mine and the whole package came to under $750, shipping included!
Thanks again Galen.
Really appreciate it...
Whats the price for a set of these for a 2.5 mercury ?

for heads, anodizing, o-rings and shipping was just under $750.00
A steal in my book....

The heads look great!! Hows does he build the head for compression? Do you tell him what you want or is there some kind of adjustment? I think the removable cyl is a great idea. How is it held in the head?

The removable chamber is held in place by being pinched between the block and the chassis or frame of the head. There is a small o-ring seal (see the pic below) that helps to seal the cooling chamber and also helps hold the chamber in the head.
I'm telling ya'..... Galen thought of it all.
He will make you any CC you want, with or with out the o-ring se-up. Also...if you buy a set and decide later that you want more more snap, crackle & pop in your breakfast... call him and get a complete set of chambers made for $275 and you just swap them out.

You mean to tell me that you can swap out each cyl and increase or decrease you compression when ever you want? Is the $275 per new set of cyl? That is amazing! Does he have a web site?

If you decide to step up with more or less compression, all you have to do is call Galen and order a set of whatever cc chambers you would like and he will build you a set of chambers that will meet your needs.
$275 is the price for just a set of chambers.
Don't think he has a website as of yet...he is too busy building motors...

Believe it or not, jetski two strokes used those 13 years ago ,at least thats when i saw similar hot rod heads. They had long studs that reached from the head to the crankcase to keep the botton of the cylinder from cracking.

those heads are cool, jet ski companies have been making heads like that for years. i have one on a 800xp. its cool to have 2 sets of chambers one for pump gas one for klotz, just change them to suit your needs. coolest thing though is like you said burn up a piston running it too lean and for less than the price of a STOCK REPLACEMENT HEAD you pop in a new chamber.
