Can any one tell me if a lower from a 76 evinrude 200 fit a 81 johnson 235?

Can any one tell me if a lower from a 76 evinrude 200 fit a 81 johnson 235? no shift shaft is different.

Yes and no. I have a 76 lu on my 86 motor right now. If you look at the very top of the shift shaft the 76 77 and 78 i believe have a piece about 1 1/4" long that threads onto the top of the shaft for adjustment of the shifting and after 78 the shift shaft is all 1 piece that screws into the lu for adjustment. If you can get the top part of the 78 and newer shaft just measure 300 times the exact length and weld it on. As i did 3 years ago. Works great. Oh... and on a side note if i rember corectly only the 76 lu skeg is STRAIT while all the others were swept back at an angle.

As mentioned can be done but they shift backwards from one another, 79 on pull up for forward, 76-78 pushes down.

If you swap the intake and shift hardware it will work fine without other modification.

Greg is correct if you switch out those parts.
