I just picked up a boat with a blown V6 merc. I think its a carbed 2.5 but how can i make sure? Im tearing it down now.
Serial number is damaged but looks like
N998029
Could also be
N993029
date code cast on block looks like 1995
carbs are 3308-9672-c
5 reed valves per side
any ideas?

measure tha holes.. will be 3 1/8" (2.0) or 3 1/2" (2.5)... number will be 0D, 0G. 0T for a 2.5 style "fat block"......

Was able to gather more info
Serial number is A998029
It has a large diameter gearcase

hate ta let ya know that's a 35 horse motor number... What ya got is a "fat block" 150 2 liter ('91 or newer)

makes no difference.. A, B, C's xxxxxx were 80's and 90 (last year of tha old style blocks).. ALL 2.5 style blocks will be OD, 0G or 0Txxxxxx.. it may be a '92 or newer 'cause its got tha two rectifier/regulators..... whats tha other numbers stamped with tha 95?

Carbs are from this motor.
Guy claimed he had the motor "worked to 200hp"
