I have a 2000 280. I have been running rich on all cylinders forever. Now the boat wont run at high rpm. Lowered the fuel offset down to -2 on the DDT. Plug reads are looking better. Still not quite there yet. What are the symptoms of a bad air temp sensor? DDT shows different temperature at startup and operation. ie. 40 at startup and 70 during operation even though its 90+ outside? Is their a spec for this unit? Didn't see any in the manual. Heck ill just buy one. Anybody solved a problem like this? Makes sense that its rich based on my temp readings correct?

Thanks for your replies in advance

ddt won't show a fault unless the sensor is out of range, shorted or open...... 40 - 70 is in range. However, it is not reading right, showing cold and therefore making the motor run rich........ yup, the sensor needs replacement

Mine measured open and smoked like an absolute pig when first fired up....

This is for 260, maybe the same as 280

Is the ddt reading Celsius or Fahrenheit?

UPDATE - Received my new air temp sensor in the mail today and hooked up the DDT for a side-by-side comparison.

Outdoor Temperature = 77F

Old Sensor - 46F - 16kohm
New Senor - 77F - 8kohm (The DDT spec is 8Kohm)

Nelson's chart appears to be inline with the readings if you don't have access to a DDT.

Thanks for sharing with the group Nelson

Yes I did remembered to turn the box back to factory offset. Wow that would not be nice!

OMG! What this mean is I have been running this motor hog rich for 10years!!

Thanks S&F
