Seeing how much interest there is for my Skater. Thinking of upgrading to a Center Console to get back into fish, diving, etc. This is not a fire sale and if it doesn't sell then I'll keep it. So tire kickers and low ballers just keep moving. I will ship it once I have funds on hand and everything is clear. Trying to make sure I disclose everything here to avoid any confusion and answer everyone's questions.

HULL- 1989 24' Skater. I bought this hull with a buddy in May of 2013. It had 200hp fishing motors on it and they just weren't enough to get the job done. After purchase we had a tech from the JL Audio install a top of the line sound system. It includes 4 JL Audio 8.8 woofers with sport grill, two JL Audio 10" Subwoofers with sport grill, two JL Audio Marine Grade Amps (one powering the 8.8's and the other for the subs), a JL Audio Line Driver (this allows you to play music directly thru the amps without having a stereo) and a JL Audio MBT-RX Bluetooth receiver (allows Bluetooth connectivity from up to 30' away). He also removed the wood interior side panels and replaced them with a marine grade plastic (can't remember if it's starboard) to support the weight of the 8.8's. The same tech installed blue LED lighting in the cockpit and white LED in the bilge area, and wired in a switch under the dash. The wiring on this boat is second to none and was done by the previous owner. I cannot attest to whether the tanks are done or not, but I have only run a 50/50 mix of Aviation Fuel and Recreational Fuel in it since we've owned it (both are non-ethanol). I have pulled both onboard fuel filters to check if there were any issues and nothing was found in the filters. The boat does have two high-pressure fuel pumps and the on-board filters are very large so they almost act like catch tanks. There are catch tanks built in but we don't have the need to use them. I believe each fuel tank holds 50 gallons. The transom has two Bob's High Performance Manual Jack Plates with 4" of setback. The boat has a tunnel tab as well but the seal on the ram for that needs to be replaced as it doesn't hold full pressure. We have been using a bungee cord to keep it up for safety reasons, and the tab is still functional if needed, but that's the story with that. Boat currently has a Latham Dual Ram steering setup with wingplates and tie-bar. One ram had a leaky seal so it went back to Latham a few months ago and was overhauled. The boat has Livorsi Blue Anodized Dual Throttles in the center so you can run a throttle man/wheel man setup. It has a Livorsi Steering Wheel and Livorsi Black Face Gauges with red lighting. The ignition, fuel pumps, bilge etc are controlled by Livorsi Military Style Toggle Switches. Has dual 1000CCA Batteries up front and dual battery switches. Each engine has it's own battery that is isolated from the other. LED Nav Lights and 3 pop-up SS Cleats on each side of the boat. The interior is a silver Skater interior. It currently has new black snap-in carpet. Dual bilge pumps on each side of the boat. A previous owner of the boat drilled a battery hold down tray into the bottom of the tunnel (long before I got this boat) and water got into those holes and caused some delamination. That area was cut out, re-cored, re-glassed, and re-gelcoated about a year ago. There is a small area on the front of the port sponson that had some delamination and went to a Fiberglass shop (they build cat style race boats) where the bad stuff was completely removed and the area was recored and reglassed (vacuum bagged) . Other than that small area the hull is solid and has blue gelcoat on the bottom and blue/silver automotive paint with clear coat on the sides and top. It has a full Sunbrella cover that is felt lined on the inside and includes two engine covers as well. I keep the boat under a 20' canopy at my house. The boat is hand washed and towel dryed after EVERY use.

Trailer- The trailer is a custom made 2014 AllStar Aluminum trailer. It has full LED lighting, custom rims, and hydraulic brakes on one axle. It has a small ladder on the front post to make it easier to get in the boat. I painted the axles black with the bed liner paint before they ever got wet to keep them from rusting.

Engines- These engines are 1999 Mercury 280's. They were purchased with 130ish original hours on them and they had never been rebuilt. We ran them for about 10 hours and then they were taken to Diamond Marine where Marty and Joe did their magic. Both engines got full rebuilds to include Mercury top-Pinned Pistons and custom Diamond Marine Tuners. We also sent the ECU's to Simon Motorsports in Cali and had them flashed to ROS specs. If I recall correctly they dyno'd around 310hp each and were broken in for 2 hours each by Marty. They've only seen the best fuel and oil and the Nicasil was good so they were honed during the rebuilds. Hard to find virgin 280's like these that haven't been dogged or heli coiled by some shadetree mechanic. These motors run flawless and are used in saltwater in South Fla. However, each motor is flushed for a minimum of 5 minutes EVERY time they hit the water and we use Salt Away when flushing. Total run times are 155hrs and 161hrs, keep in mind they were rebuilt around 140hrs.

Mids- Both mids are Heavy Duty Offshore midsections with single ram trim. When the engines were being rebuilt I removed the swivel arms and rebuilt the bushings and had them re-powder coated. Unfortunately the powder coating on the mids is not in the best shape and it will need to be refinished eventually.

Lowers- Both lowers are 20" Sportmasters. The left lower had an issue and lost fluid last year so it was taken to Diamond Marine and got internals, a brand new prop shaft, and a 20" stainless steel driveshaft that was machined to fit the sporty. The left hand has a custom water intake modification done by Diamond Marine which gives it about 5psi more than the stock right hand. Both are 1.87:1 ratio and fat shaft.

Props- Mercury 34p by 14.5 3 blade cleavers. Flo-tor hubs on both. The left hand prop got a small crack in it so they were both taken to Frank and Jimmies and it was repaired and both were polished and balanced by Mike. The props are in great shape and I think one edge might have a small nick the size of a ball point pen tip.

Cowlings- Both are Mercury cowls that have been painted with black/clear. They have custom Mercury decals on them and have the Offshore racing cowl pins on top to keep them secure. They also include skirts on both sides. I discovered today that the starboard pan is cracked where it mounts to the stainless plate that anchors it to the front of the motor. It's easy to replace the pan.

Any questions feel free to call me at 786-473-9789 (tel:786-473-9789) or email me at tony97gt@aol.com. Hopefully I've answered a lot of questions. I work nights so if I don't answer the phone just leave a message. I REALLY hate to sell this boat but I want to go a different route. This is a turn-key 110mph boat as it sits with the jackplates bottomed out. Put in more setup and you should see 120mph no problem. I will only separate if the hull sells first. This boat is meticulously maintained and Diamond Marine can attest to the motor builds. Looking to get $53,999k OBO for the entire boat, motor, cover, and trailer TURN-KEY. Boat is currently financed with Navy Federal Credit Union so I do no have title on hand at the moment. 1989 Skaters are Vinylester builds according to Peter at Skater and should not have tank issues.

Only selling to go a different route. South Florida has way too much opportunity for fishing, diving, Bahamas trips, and weekends at the sandbars. Not practical in an Offshore Cat.

Wonder if I helped spark this sale by asking you 6 weeks ago if you knew of any 24's for sale :DNah what actually sparked it was a friend saying he wants to buy a center console and me not being able to scuba dive or deep sea fish off the back of a Skater. I used to own a center console and really enjoy the skater but I'm not using the Skater for what it should be used for. I do more local sandbar trips than high speed poker runs.

I can confirm the motors have never once seen the rev limiters. Even when we were cruising at 108mph with 4 people, at least 60gallons of fuel (if not more) and a 100qt marine cooler on board. All of which took place with a 2ft chop and a head wind gusting up to 20mph. I still have my wife's skid stained bikini bottoms to prove it.

32 pitch 7400rpm at 9%slip calculates to 109mph. 280s can spin a lot higher than that . this boat with dialing in the setup could do 117-120 mphThat is what I was thinking when I asked the question 110 @ 7,200. I thought the 280s easily spun up to about 7,800 which make this one fast Skater at around 118-120. I used to have a 28' with 300Xs which ran at its best 115mph at sea level. However, the boat was somewhat unstable in some conditions with so much weight on the rear. The 280s would have been a much better choice for my 28' and a must for a 24. I have a friend on Long Island with a 24' and I think he is only running 115 on his best day. I will call him a check this out. well, in any case, Tony has one pretty Skater and it looks mechanically immaculate. GLWS. :)

Thanks again guys for all the compliments. Jason and I take pride in our boat and it stays covered and is stored under a canopy. We hand wash and microfiber towel dry it after every use. We also flush each engine and the trailer with Salt Away after every use. Diamond Marine was told when they did the rebuilds that anything which needs to be replaced should be. No expenses have been spared on this boat. I have the paperwork from Mercury for the engines when they were originally bought, they are a matching pair. I hate to let them go because I doubt there are many, if any at all still left out there that have been so well maintained and a low hour matching Diamond set. We will split up the engines as long as the hull and trailer go first. The JL sound system really cranks and has no distortion. This boat draws so much attention it's a real head turner everywhere we go.

Man I LOVE this boat but I am having a problem being able to buy non-ethanol gas at any of the lakes we plan to take it to. I can only find non-ethanol gas at a couple stations here in town and packing jugs of gas for this thirsty beast is not really an option. I also lost my source of AV Gas because the airport I used to work for flight instructing has been sold and I no longer can back a boat onto the ramp to access where the pump is located where they fuel planes and I also do not get my discount anymore.

How do you guys up north get high octane ethanol free gas for these 280's? I know Tony can get in in South Florida where the air boaters get it but in NC,SC,TN on the lakes we currently run, it is not available. Just regular 93 with ethanol and some only 91 with ethanol. I have called every marina we can access. DOH!

This is very frustrating.

**Edit - Well, I talked to Marty at Diamond and he told me I was basically in a common situation and with no good gas, I was looking at newer 4 stroke power and to heavy for the 24' Skater which I already figured. I can't buy a beauty like this and trash the engines with crappy gas or pack cans.... Damn! I am gutted, I really love the boat that I can't have.

Yea we will see what I buy. Something I can use I can run ethanol gas in that I can buy on the lake. I already have two boats now and I am going in a new direction. You will see. ;) But thanks anyway. Always a troll in the for sale threads I see from your post history. Sorry to trash your for sale thread Tony, YOU know I would be getting your boat if I had the means to keep gas in it. I'm out.

I have been using it in my deck boat (5.7 GXI 320 hp Volvo 189hrs total on the boat) and replaced a fuel pump assy. for almost a grand last month. Now this week we replaced my partners fuel pump assy. in his 2014 cobalt (70 hrs. on a Volvo 380) warrantied but still a pain and it would have been $1100.00 if they hadn't covered it. The pumps are on a national back order so obviously I am not the only guy dealing with the issue. No more additives for me, I will pay the $4.50 and fuel up on the water or at the airport. I have been running av gas in all of my mowers, chainsaws, scooters and motorcycles for the last 3 years and not one card rebuild has been required. Once again, its a total mess that our government can control what we are required to buy. This new bio diesel is a another mess that is on our hands-my truck ran like crap after filling up with it a Loves truck stop this week.

Tony and I have only run either 50% 90 rec & 50% 100LL AV gas (diluted 95 octane) or straight 100LL, mixed 32:1 with Klotz full synthetic oil. We've done a lot of research on fuel/oil and we came to the consensus that it's expensive to be cheap.

Peter from Skater claims that vinyl ester hulls, such as ours, are okay with ethanol fuel. We're not willing to risk destroying our tanks and motors to sacrifice a few bucks at the pump. We pay top dollar for fuel/oil, our motors scream and run like raped apes and our fuel filers/water separators are debris free.

*on a random note: Bio-diesel has its' pros and cons. One issue is that it acts like a solvent and cleans your fuel tank and lines. So if you ran a tank of B100 or any high concentrate of bio, you're going to want to change your fuel filters ASAP. Otherwise you may experience low fuel pressures and subsequently, poor performance.

Did a quick interweb search and found a few dockside mobile fuel delivery services in the Carolinas. Looks like the offer marine fuel that is non-ethanol. A service like this, paired with an octane booster like Ace's may be the answer to your fuel issue.

I appreciate you looking. I live in extreme Western NC about 10 minutes from the state line with TN. The cities in that first link are around 5+ hours from me. The closest place on either of those two links is near Charlotte which is a 2.5 hour drive for me each way. I do appreciate you looking!! Thank you.
I love your boat and I have the cash but I guess I am pretty much stuck with something with Aluminum tanks and 300XS minimum Engines that can handle 91 octane and ethanol as long as you don't leave it sitting and use the Mercury additives like your buddy down there runs on his Skater.

It would not be fun even if I could buy 93 Octane no Ethanol gas on the way to a lake for the weekend and then have to also use some additive to get the octane up just to run it out of the gas on Saturday and have to not drive it Sunday until the next time I go past the gas station that sells the 93 Octane non-ethanol gas not on the lake.

I love you guys setup and Tony seems like a straight up guy and so do you. I believe everything I have been told about the boat, I have talked to Tony on the phone multiple times and I have to get something with aluminum tanks that needs less octane fuel and more range.

This is the only practical solution for me as I can't pay what you guys are asking then turn around and repower the boat with 300XS's and change out the tanks to Aluminum and stay within my budget. I don't have a wife that kind to let me spend that much money and I am not going to finance another thing as long as I live unless I am in dire circumstances.

I am very sorry I had no idea of the fuel requirements of the 280's. When I had my 1988 built 200 Black Max on my Baja, gas you could buy at the pump on any lake was all 93 octane non-ethanol and it was not an issue.

+1 on the Bio-Diesel. I had to have the Injectors cleaned and fuel filter replaced after using a tank from Loves myself! I have a 2012 Silverado 3500 Dually tow vehicle with a little work on it and the Bio-Diesel caused it to run lean, I could tell it after about 100 miles. I have a 50G auxiliary tank in my bed and it is still holding about 35G of the stuff and I am not sure what to do with it. Any ideas? JPEROG if you see your truck blow any white smoke out the exhaust it is lean. If you have a monitor or programmer that has a display, I have the Edge Insight CTS, I could also see a spike in water temp. Be careful, especially Duramax's like I have are easy to pop running lean and so are the 6.0 Ford Diesels. If it blows out black smoke when you start it that smells like raw diesel then it goes away, your injectors are already on their way out. I am on my third Chevy Duramax powered truck since 2004 as I put a LOT of miles hauling all kinds of trailers and a big ass RV on them.

Smartest thing that I think you can do fuel wise. I am lucky enough to have a few different fuel carriers close by that have both av gas 100ll and 90 rec. I do the same thing (100LL is less then the 90 rec which seems crazy) plus the 100LL smells great.

Thanks for the heads up on the fuel filters, I will swap them out tomorrow.

Great news on locating a good fuel source!

You can also look into adding a rider to your existing home owner's insurance policy for a vessel. That will likely be your easiest and cheapest solution.

Markel is the only one who would insure it but nowhere close to the 300K I need to get a permit on the private lake where our place is. And it was almost 4K a year. WOW!!! I believe it is the Lawyers and sue happy people that made it so hard to get insurance. I wish the Ins companies would be nicer to people who have made no claims and have experience and clean driving records. I had no idea when I started my search, that Insurance would be so hard to get at any price on older boats and fast boats. My Baja that would run 76GPS was something like 300 a year with 300K liability on it and it was shorter than 18 feet with 225+ HP on it and they knew it. I guess the saving grace was it was only 3 years old when I bought it.

Pretty much any cat/tunnel boat is going to be extremely expensive to insure. In addition to the plaintiffs' lawyers, you can also thank inexperienced boaters who don't know what they're doing ie the bonefish guy that flipped his spectre, the guy in the viral YouTube video of that boating accident (I think it was a fountain- I know, not a cat, but same principle, inexperience/operator error).

Baja170

I'm not that worried about the cost, even 4K+ a year for Comp + 300K in liability is not that bad considering you can lose everything you have worked for your whole life if there is an accident whether it is TRULY your fault or not. These boats are vehicles but basically they are our toys. I know now why a lot of you keep them locked in awesome garages under lock and key and guarded now. INS is hard to get!

True. i have seen that video. When I was a flight instructor many years ago we used to talk about seeing a plane fly buy and seeing a guy sitting in a chair about 3 or 4 hundreds of yards behind it. That viral video is like a boat going with the driver 3 or 4 hundred yards behind it. At least it did not roll enough to dump everyone out and it looks like he had his kill switch hooked to him or a hot foot one or maybe which I doubt he pulled back the throttles but could have just been dumb luck because he had a hold of them and when he bit it his hand pulled them back who knows. And that guy is a youtube hero now, imagine that....

Brian,

I know you are involved in this stuff everyday and that we are living in a very litigious country so please don't take any personal offence to my opinion -(I know you're a decent guy).

The family and attorney should have accepted the fact that Jays boat didn't do anything without having an operator in the seat...no different then a guns ability to kill someone by itself (its the operator/handler). Its total greed and they made Jay live through hell and took everything he had from him. If I get killed in a boat, on a bike, or in a car and my family tries to go after the manufacture or sanctioning body of an event, please show them this post and let it be known that I think its total B.S. and greed. They need to continue on with their lives and realize that I chose my own actions and was well aware of the risk that were associated. Chances are that I had a big grin on my face until I realized that I HAD MADE A MISTAKE.

Sorry to keep your thread off subject but I have some pretty strong feelings about this after buying two boats from Jay and having a friends family take legal action against a throttle manufacture. The skater is really nice since you guys worked all of the bugs out of it and gave it the fresh power.

We are human and we all make mistakes. Good judgement is learned from bad experience right?

On Topic: It is a VERY NICE boat. Marty at Diamond said I would not find a better set of 280's anywhere he knew of and he knows Tony on a first name basis and said they did not spare ANY expense and had the engines done RIGHT. To quote Marty he said the engines were "the real deal" and I could buy with confidence and that I should be careful buying 280's without knowing the true history of them and these were 100% right on and plumbed right.

If I could insure it to put it on our lake, I would be going to pick it up soon. Tony is an honest guy and I am sure Jason is as well. It is a beautiful boat and honestly represented and VERY clean. Tony is a neat freak, you can tell. (Sorry Tony)

The small area of concern is being repaired by Lee Austin of L.A. Marine, in Ft. Lauderdale. I stopped by today to see him and he told me it should be ready for the water mid next week. Thanks Justin I wish we could afford to keep it and upgrade but it's time for a little change. I too was thinking very hard about selling after we've done so much to this boat and we aren't making any profit whatsoever. But who knows, down the road maybe we will find another one. Right now I'm ready to get back into some fishing, diving, and Bahamas trips. As long as skater is building boats I'll be alright. Just wish we could keep the 280's in the garage until then. I love those things!

You should keep the 280's Tony. From what Marty at Diamond told me they are as good as it gets and rare to find a matched set like yours are. Can you part out the boat and keep them? At least you would have them and be ready to rig them on another hull once you pay off the new boat and you would know what you have. Marty told me buying used 280's is a risky thing due to the fact you only get one time to overheat them and when you don't know the history it is a risk. He added those were straight up "the real deal".

I like the video, you can tell you got a heavy throttle hand Tony when he is following you. If I could have gotten the Insurance I need, that boat would already be in my garage or on a lift in our boat house it is 50x40 and already has a lift.

It is the over 100 part they don't like I am pretty sure. I just got turned down by Markel on the new boat I got "because it has over the transom exhaust". We are sending them photos of it showing it has through transom exhaust that comes out under the waterline when it is off plane and see if they will reconsider. I have not heard back from Wakezone on it yet. How long does it usually take them to get back to you when you fill out all their paperwork for a quote?

The fact that you live in South Florida does not help you either Tony I am sure. I will be running on lakes and maybe a river or two but 90% or more lakes. I have 5 good size lakes within an hour drive of me and about 5 more within 2 hours drive. We have 50 and 60 degree days in NC and SC in the winter a lot of years and I will be hitting the lake.

The boat is back from the glass shop and is ready for a new home. The area was repaired and reinforced with Kevlar. Also went by Diamond Marine and got the hours info. If my memory serves me right when we bought the 280's they had 130ish hours and we ran them for probably 10-15 hours before the rebuilds. Now they have approx 160 total hours so we put roughly 20 hours on them since they've been rebuilt.

I have a 24 that has 2.5 260's that have never been apart and still run strong (no sleeves, excellent compression on each motor). I was thinking about having Diamond clean them up over the winter, but would like to upgrade to 280's instead. Would you consider selling just the powerheads and gearcases only? Or would it be the complete motors? The reason I ask is that the 260 tuners are obviously different than the 280's, but I have a spare set of clean 280 offshore mids. My motors are 1996 Mariner 2.5 260 EFI's. I sold the original powerheads and put new drop on powerheads back in 2005 or so. 260's are getting rarer then 280's especially in Mariner Grey lol.

It would all depend on someone buying the hull and whether they wanted the entire package minus just powerheads or if they wanted no motors at all. Once I have a buyer for that I can give you a better answer. But if they wanted no motors at all I would part them out.

If I could have gotten the required 300K liability on it for the private lake our home is on it would already be mine. I am shocked it has not sold yet myself. Super nice for the year no doubt. Tony and Jason's Skater is SWEET. Would love to own it.

Yeah I know, I was hoping it would have sold by now but it seems nothing is really moving this time of year. Guess I'll just keep enjoying it until someone else wants to. Thanks for the support!

Give Tony a deposit on the Skater and he would probably hold it for you. The Skater owners are honest guys. I have spent a lot of time with Tony on the phone about the boat and he is 100%. Just a thought if you really want it.

Ken Ken at this time the powerheads are not for sale. If the hull sells first without them, then we would sell the powerheads. Thanks.

Man if I still had the money this would be sitting in my garage right now. Wife thinks buying homes is a better investment than buying boats...... How can I argue with that.

Like I have osted earlier. I have talked to Diamond Marine about this boat and Tony a bunch. This Skater is the real deal and I would love to be blowing people's minds on our lake with it. :(
