Got a friend that needs help timing
engine. It's a 460 ford big block
with a competition cam
268 duration
494 lift
218 degrees at 50,000
is what the cam info said. What
should he set engine timing at
at idle? 1000's? 2000? 3000? or what?
Thanks ahead.
by the way he has a tunnel ram intake
with two 450 holly's and msd ingition if it matters.

Is what I would set it at idle. That will give you a good starting point

Only thing I remember is always use a early 429 or performance timing chain as the later model stock chains are retarted around 4-6 deg. start at stock factory spec's and check total advance at around 35 to 3800 don't go much ovr 36deg with today's great gas
my 2 cents
