Straight skeg and swept skeg, twins turning opposite of each other would have straight Skegs

Alby, is correct.
The unit on the floor in the first picture is for a RH rotation mostly used on a single application but could be run on a twin application as is.
The ones mounted on the engines are called O/S skegs used on LH rotation and RH for a twin engine boat so the steering does not fight.
You can run a straight (O/S) skeg on a RH single application but steering will suffer that is why they developed the swept skeg with torque tamer/tab units.

I'm running a single engine with a straight skeg which has a torque tab added. It seems to work fine. Is there any down side to this compared to the swept with built in tab?

I have noticed this as well and would like to learn more about it.
my buddies and I have the same type of boat, i.e hull weight engine set up propeller etc.. boats are SOB
we have noticed that two of us have the straight and the other have the swept.
We have noticed that the O/S or straight skeg boats tends to run faster when engine height is low whilst remaining stable once they put the engine height they tend to loose more stability.
Where as the swept skeg is the one I have I tend to run the engine height much higher in order to gain the same top speed whilst it will still remain stable, on the other hand if I lower the engine to their height my top end will decrease.
if someone has any more info related to this please share.
