I seen someone mentioned that Mercury has discontinued the 300xs engine as of today. Is this true ??

The300XS & 250 Sport XS are in my new 2016 Racing Pricing Guide. I don't think the 300XS is going anywhere very soon.

hopefully the EPA has stopped hammering outboards and goes after something else for a while

It was not the EPA that made Mercury stop selling racing outboards. It was demand and the corporate desire to be perceived as environment-friendly.

Does low demand really matter when you have all the tooling already fully depreciated and the expertise readily available? I can see the perception angle.

sure, I meant 2 strokes - 4 stroke was cheap and simple so they did it BUT
I think the next round of EPA stuff will make it difficult to get a 4 stroke to pass so it will be all engines back to 2 strokes, you heard it first here!

you can never understand the USA engine manufacturers they did everything to gift 50% of the global business to the Japs for free for no good reason and the biggest selling car in the USA is a Camry, same problem in that industry as well.
2 stroke outboards being sold all over SE Asia but not from USA manufacturers, must have decided there was no market?

They discontinued 1.62 Torque Master versions, 1.62 still available as a Sport Master. Their contention was the volume was super low and most boats able to use a 1.62 gear ratio would need a Sport Master due to the speeds they can achieve.
