Well, got the new toy mounted today. Thanks again Don! Find out how she performs tomorrow.
Anybody had experience with one on a 15 Baja? Total of 4 1/2" setback.
Raised the motor 1/2". Propshaft's now bout 5" below the keel. Good place to start?
How soon til I need LWP?

Its still pretty deep... Make sure you have a trustworthy h2o pressure gauge.. Incrementally bring the engine up until you begin to see erratic pressure readings (sucking air), then lower back down incrementally until the pick-ups are pulling in no air.. If you want that highest setting then you can plug the top one or two intake holes, or then go to a nosecone and keep going up..
It may start to slip when coming out of the hole, over revving a bit till the bow lays over and then it will hook-up and move on just fine

You should be able to come up till the top of the lower unit barrel is even with the keel.

I dunno Fred. Not sure how much I wanna raise it before adding a low water pickup. If you lay a straight edge on the bottom I've already got the top two intake holes exposed?

Water rises as it exits the rear of the hull.Looks like you have a couple inches at least.

With the current gearcase/pickups you could easily run it 1 - 1 1/2" below plank (center of prop shaft to running plank).
Looks way, way deep at the moment!

Time to get a LWP on that thing and let her eat. I think a lot of your handling issues will clear up when you get it set up better.

Thanks guys. Ya I know it needs to come up. Bob's cone is on the list. Anyplace cheaper to get one than buying direct? They want a lil under $200.

I think I saw one sitting at Rich Junkers shop. Thinks its a TH Marine nosecone. Give him a call. He might make you a deal if you have him weld it.

'Preciate the heads up Chris. But think I'm gonna hold out for a Bob's.
In the mean time I went diggin through Ernie's junk pile and came up with this:
Figgered a pressure gauge'd be a good idea. Idles at 3 psi on muffs. Is that okay/accurate? Ain't stuck it in the water yet?

3lbs is plenty on the hose.. Don't rev it up hard on the muffs though..

In post #1 it looks like the bottom of the jackplate os sticking out from the transom a bit....???
If ya dont want to go with a lwp mite think of cilling in the top 2 holes and opening up the bottom ones and feathering the water into them..
My 2 cents

Thanks for confirming that Ted. Also been told I oughta get 10 - 12 psi at idle with it in the water. And 20 mebbe 25 at a slow cruise. Do you concur?

My 2 centsNot sure what you mean RK. It's flush against the transom?
Gonna go with lwp soon's possible. Just ain't got enough jingle right now ...

Its probly just the way the light hits it but i thought it looked as if the bottom of the jackplate is sticking out away from the transom here where i circled in black.
That thing sure sounds good in the vidio. Had one a while back and it was so dependable and reliable and ........ started good with a pull rope when i ran the radio too long and draind the battery dead.

Ya I love these motors. Yup I've pull started em before. Not for the faint of heart.

Okay got the gauge plumbed. Too tight through the wire bundle so I drilled a hole and ran it through a rubber grommet.
Assume teeing it into the base of the pee tube is acceptable?

You gotta tee it in before the thermostats. The pee tube has virtually 0 pressure.

Got tired of sucking salt spray into the cowl from the stupidly placed vents in the pan so I roughed em up'n plugged em with JB weld.
Drilled a few holes under the handle of the cover to let a lil more air in?
