View Full Version : Power density
It would seem that a limited production MITSUBISHI 2.0 L has made the grade with 440hp @ 4600 , 412 lb-ft @ 3100, that's 220HP/L

When they are talk outboard horsepower, it is rated at the prop, not the crankshaft like that Mitsu...... I'm sure merc has a couple outboards up at the factory pushing way more than that.............
Ya , we know propshaft. The point being , the 400merc was being compared to any new production cars' power density. And conversation continues, those ones at the factory probably should have a racing sticker on them.

How about lb. per hp? That is more important to me with an outboard. Gary

It makes 400hp....and it's for real. The R is just there for marketing. It's a consumer motor that you can troll with....the Mitsubishi isn't as well behaved (cool as heck though...I love my 2.0L turbo Mitsubishi). It's just a giant motor not meant for little boats.
Outboards never have great power density compared to real boost 4strokes....like bikes or sleds...
