It's been asked before , Anything available for the 4strokes, cams, heads, inj., any make YAMI, MERC, the others. What to do , porting , exhaust, ecm. Who's doing it and is it worth the trouble, or are things going to the cookie cutter world, just buy a bigger one and toss it out when done.

My guess is unless it is for race only applications, EPA regulations may not allow modifications.

That doesn't stop all the cars from being modified currently nor a whole industry built around auto engine modifications.

Contact Airflow research they flow bench heads. As for cams i would think that most cam grind shops could help.

I see modified stern drives all the time. A four stroke is a four stroke right?

Not when they come with locked ECU's and catalytic convertors.

I just read an article where the auto manufacturers are having another go at the copyright agency ( laws that currently exist but cars have had an exemption from the law so people can change them) where they say its now becoming dangerous for the man in the street to hack into their systems so they want the legal protection that the law currently should provide.
We do have computers controlling brakes and steering now after all.
That will mean even a legally tested and approved aftermarket ad on module will by default be illegal as you have hacked proprietary information to make it.

Stick it. It's bought and paid for, it's fair game.

Less your state and federal fine for tampering with emmission device.
I wonder how they will police it?
Those 2005 and older engines will get popular.

Judging by the SCB thread, FMP is already an expert on 4 stroke performance, why is he even asking this? Just turn one of those Mercedes 4 cylinders on its end and put a lower on it, you'll show all those dumbass merc engineers and be ready to whip the worlds ass.

WHO SAID they're dumbass, not once friend. Takes a lot r&d to make what they did, and I respect every hr. of time they put in it. Some people seem to think a little differently on the marketing strategy of the RACING stickers. Sorry you can't see that .

DIDN't think so, As for the hipo parts, quess it's just a matter of time before the most common larger motors start to see a parts supply.

The legislation for outboard engines is much more restrictive than for automobiles.

Modifying cars is not illegal. Modifying outboards are.

I guess Brunswick had better lobbyists than GM and Ford...

At the time of Project X, the dumbass merc 4-stroke engineers only knew how to modify a GM crate engine so that you could bolt a sterndrive to it.

The Porsche engineers who designed the Verado are a different story. :D

From what I have seen not in FL, and on depending area/state modifying cars is illegal based on the mod. Typically those that have anything to dimwit emissions such as engine tuning, removing cats, etc. That is why a lot of parts say race use only. Also comes down to what is enforced, and again in FL never heard of an outboard being inspected for modifications.

The car guys are asking the gov to plug the hole that allows somone to mod a car even if they get that mod certified by the epa.
2016 the usa will have one federal law on emissions so no more alabama no rules here stuff.

That has to do with ecu mainly as they are arguing that changing code would be something like a copyright infringement. The other issues are how it relates to modifying safety parameters in the code. Still won't stop ecu modifications for power, etc. once warranty is up and no need to involve a dealer

Sure, thats what the fine is for.
I can see where they are concerned and that is cars with stability control, that means all those engine parameters and the control of the car are intergrated.
Thats gunna get the governments attention no doubt.

As far as who and is it worth it... Sent my 275 Verado ecm to Simon. Said it was around 315 now. Didn't see any real change in efficiency and picked up about 2-3 mph on my 24 Spectre. Not really worth it, but had I not done it I would still be wanting to!!!!!!!!

2-3mph well as you only use that in sanctioned race events???? i guess its worth it.
