Bought a Merc Humpback cleaver, small shaft, fixed hub. What type of hardware do I need to mount it on a Merc gear case? It seems like it is thicker at the hub than standard props. Can I use a standard merc thrust washer? What do I use to snug the prop down on the gear case? Can I use the nut alone? Theres not much room for the nut.

Thanx: Ron

merc only did a fixed hub humpback for like the first year, after that they were all Flo-torq,you should be fine with Merc thrust washer and maybey castle nut with tab washer that locks/bends into castle

Thanks
the only problem is that there's not enough clearance to put a tab lock washer snugged up to the nut. Could I get by with just a nut?

sumin' ain't right... I ran several different "hump backs" over tha years and never had a problem... stock nut and tab washer (maybe splined castle washer) always worked..........can't remember if tha thrust washer had an "offset" though.

take the thrust washer off and slide on prop
to see how much further it slides on
probably have the wrong washer

thats what I'm thinking. Very little of the spline is exposed to get a locking washer on, to be tighten down.

also look on back side of prop
is the shaft hole straight at end to use a washer
or is it tapered to match the prop shaft
as stated need a pic of back side of prop

ya gotta run an "offset" washer..........it has ta fit inside tha face against tha hub and outside edge against tha prop.. can't run a "flat" washer.

look similar to this...don't know if this is actually one that "fits" though. there's several different sizes...
