I got this Evinrude in a swap for some other boat parts. The motor does not appear to have been taken apart and looks to be all original. but I wanted to find the serial number on the block and confirm that it is a 135 and figure out which year it is. Also I would like to know if it still has the original heads. Where is the serial number on the block and how can I identify these heads? Thanks

Look for a swelch plug in the block(top rear usually) and the heads should have a #(6 digits) somewhere. Then post them.

Are you sure yer lookin at the right plug? It'll be on top of the port cylinder bank. Bout the size of a quarter. I believe you'll have to remove the "boomerang" coil mount to be able to see it.

yep.. the same plug location where I usually find the numbers and yes I had to remove that boomerang thingy. It has the logo M at the top.

Well you would figure that they would still include a model number so you could know what head you have>>>>

well not that it is a big deal or anything but I think they made this 135 motor for only about 4 years.. but still it would be nice to be able to identify the motor.. stuff gets swapped around..When I go to sell this motor I will not be able to prove for sure what it is. just going by the head numbers and the bubble back and the fact that it is still mounted to a 135 strangler midsection and cowl. I guess that will have to be good enough.
Thanks Guys

Seems that every year OMC changed the carb slightly. Internal mods. Anyway, the jet sizes always seemed to be one of the variables each year. So, if you were to find the jets sizes for the idle and high speed jets, that could be matched up to a specific model year. For instance, the high speed jet varied by year: 1973 .073 1974 .069 1975 and 1976 .061
Seems the idle jet was always a 317473.

that is exactly one of my problems, the carbs are missing, I noticed the different jet sizes too, I am not sure how much difference it will make if I use a random jet sized carburetors. I assume 1 5/16 or 1 3/8 carbs with 69-73 jet size would be the way to go, but I have no way to know what came with the motor originally.

'76 carbs were type II 1 5/16". #30 idle. #61 high speed.

69-73 sounds a lil ambitious if'n ya axe me. I run 67's in the "nine page" motor?

Believe I mentioned before I have a set of '77 type II carbs that would work just fine on yours. Byo jets ... Have the silencer box, choke solenoid, etc too. Come'n get em. I ain't never gonna use em.

I was just going by the jets I saw in the stock carb parts list, 1974 shows a 69C and 1975 shows 61C and 1973 shoes a 73C.. so I am not sure what size jets I should get to try out first.
I would love to get those carbs from you I am scheduled to be in the Lakeland area at the end of summer sometime. If I still need them then I will surely take you up on that. Thanks :)

Am thinking that the M on some parts is/was a supplier to OMC/Bombardier. I have an old stainless cleaver prop from the 80's and it has that M stamped on the inside of the prop.
Maybe a metal casting shop...
