I heard the new "Slop Stop" worked quite well in the rough waters that were encountered at the SBI race in Key West at the end of 2014.
From what i hear from others that have had the opportunity to try out this ingenious device , have stated that it has tightened up all the unwanted play in the steering stem / yoke arrangement . I expect to see many more boat's with this technology on both race boats and fast pleasure boats in the 2015 season ...

But still nothing will make up for a fresh set of rubbing blocks on the swivel guide . Sometimes these things can be worn or missing all together causing premature wear to all other moving parts .
I saw these pictures of a three cyl 90 hp motor that was cut down to 15" posted elsewhere the other day and it made me think of all the different things that contribute to poor handling .... food for thought ...

So I would imagine if the clamp didnt have the guides the mid would really wobble around a wear out prematurely? Would a good set of bungees do anything to help this. Lots of single engine sobs run bungees but they are so ugly.

Thinking about this, why remove the guides? Advantage=weight savings??
Disadvantage=warn out swivel, steering tube and bushings at the minimum??

I need to tighten my 300x up this year, suggestions beside bungees:D

When I bought my 21' Superboat , it had about a half a dozen rows of big black bungee's . Made for a great conversation piece at the gas station ... LOL

When the factory built the 15" swivel bracket , they moved the hole for the tiller arm / swivel pin back 2 inchs . This made for plenty of room to get the front of the cavitation plate under the trim cyl . allowing for negative to neutral trim .
A 20" offshore can be shortened to 15" and still keep the guides , trim and turning radius , but it does get tight.
I cant speak for others , but I think they get lost when doing shorty's and cut before they play the tape to the end .
It was thought that the three ram set-up could only go as short as 16" . Under normal logic and practice , that deal is very tight as well .
Todd came up with a "piggy-back" idea , that lets a three ram deal keep all the functions of a stocker yet lets the can be as short as 13 -14 inch's . There are 6 of those unit's out there with three different style 15" cans so far.
Tighten up your 300x .. ? Don't you have that little wave washer .... :nonod:
