Do you have a jackplate? From my understanding, the magic combo for your boat is a 12" setback jackplate, and a 24p Tempest Plus or Big-ear Chopper. No cone, top two sets of water intakes blocked off to maintain water pressure. Your goal is around 65-70 mph and 6400 rpm.

I ran a starflight 21' with 200xri and I loved the hydromotive 3-blade 24" @6200, I had It done by D.A.H. PRO-PELLERS in Wisconsin,
ran about 69-70mph.
only had a 6" setback never put any "gear" weight up under the bow so the nose was never heavy.

You're limited to 55-60 without height and setback. Try a 22p or 23p Tempest or Trophy.

Theres flotation foam in the tip of the bow forward of the bulkhead "wall." It's notorious for getting waterlogged on these hulls. Might be worth coring a sample to get a look. Some have been known to hold 50 lbs+ of dead weight up there.

Oh wow I'll check that thanks a lot!! The motor seems to set pretty or maybe the mid section is just short?

I'm running the same engine on a 19' exciter. It's hung on a 5" jack plate and turns a labbed 26" 3 blade quicksilver ss prop. Will run mid 70's with 1 person and 1/2 tank fuel. Turns 5900rpm.

The 25 Laser II will not carry the bow well if you surface it. If you don't surface it, you'll never pull it over 5500 RPM, and this is NOT good for the motor. Keep looking. Tempest or Trophy in a 24 pitch should put you in the sweet spot. Plenty of setback (which may require an upgrade of the steering system to reach) will help the bow fly easier.

Ok I'm interested in that jack plate! Would this be a good purchase for my boat??

If the propshaft is kept @ 1.5"- 2" below the pad on a 8" jack plate no low water p/u will be necc. in fact will be faster without and more user friendly. with that said mirage plus is a cheap easily found prop and will work well in a 21" or 23" pitch.
The tempest will be better in every way but also more $$$ so.......I would try to find one of those to test and go from there.
Some prop shops or marine dealers will have a try before you buy program with a small test fee and deposit, if you bring the prop back clean as new you get credit towards a diff prop minus the test fee.
good luck.

Setback ideally would be 12" however your transom wont like it.Get a 23 or 25 trophy NOT A 24.Six inch setback will be good enough. If ya want a hydromtive that's better then a trophy, you may be better off donating money to a good cause.Dont waste your time or money.Half the guys that love them are buried in the money wise and it makes them feel better talking the props up.When in reality a $1000 hydro after all the tweaking and shipping back and forth may only run .1mph faster then a used Trophy plus.

Agreed that a cone would not be recommended.

But why why not a 24?

315515315516315517315518 tempest plus as you can see the blade design is much improved.... a 220hp would turn this wheel easily as long as its a healthy motor. i ran this blade for 2-3 seasons....no cracks, welds, turns true but has some sand marks. a nick at the top of each blade. performance wise...perfect.... especially for the price...bryan 703 501 8708

Do you need to buy a prop right now? I ask because I just bought a 23" trophy plus to run on my boat. Only problem is there is lots of snow on the ground here for another month.
