Hi guys long time reader, new poster. I've just brought a 14ft 1960s savage javelin (Australian version of a g3 some would say) and I've just got her all up and running again with a Johnson v4 115. Now I'm in the testing/rigging stage, the first time I took her out was with a damaged 17p alloy prop, in chop she flew for what she is. I dont have GPS or rpm ATM but I'm working on that, I estimate she was going at least 44-50mph with 0 trim going by the watery eyes lol.

So first thing I have got lined up it a new prop and rpm gauge. I'm starting with a raker prop as I felt this would be a good prop for her, now the problem is I could only find a 24p, so I'm now a little worried if I will be able to turn her and still have 4 people in the boat.

If I can't then I will need to mod this prop and due to the fact there is not much info on the net about how to diy this, I ask the question what is the best ways to learn and also improve my prop and skills?

I am a welder/fabricator so I can quite comfortably swing a hammer lol

If the 24 is too much for 4 people, you are not going to be able to drop it more than 2" even if you knew what you were doing. Time to buy a smaller prop for carrying a load.

Try if first, and then see how it runs.

Get yourself a little digital recall tack like this. I have one on my boat mounted right in my line of sight plus you can recall your max rpm. I have a regular tach too that I never even look at.

OK so I got the new raker prop (old medel) and I found that it was just cavitating. Unless I put the gas on slowly she would just lose traction and spin, is there a reason why my 24 would cavitate yet my 17 alloy dont?
I also got a rpm gauge but couldn't get any speed as it was low tide and I had no water.
