I use the penzoil premium plus synthetic blend at 40:1. Works like a champ and doesnt smoke at all. Great oil.

use the search program and you will get thousands of thoughts:D Been beaten to death.
"Doesnt smoke at all" is very misleading especially if you premix JMO

I've been running Pennzoil Premium Plus for a few years in my 250 EFI at the suggestion of JamesGang who uses it in all of his 300x's. Boat loves it, snowmobiles love it, ATV loves it, and at $16 a gallon at AutoZone my wallet loves it too.

Me'n some'a my smart ass co-workers at Hectors Hardware in Buffalo eons ago altered a couple Pennzoil banners to read "Penizoil". Hung in the store for months. Til one'a the reps finally picked up on it.
Regardless. I'm kinda partial to Quicksilver Premium Plus myself. But I ain't got no quarrel with no Pennsylvania crude ... Specially at that price.

i switched to Pennzoil XLF a few years ago on my Merc 200 hp and Mariner 150 hp, Love it, clean and less smoke. Plus i run my engines at top of the RPM band and i feel more confident with this oil, many guys on here, pushed me to try it cause they had great experiences with it! Jim

I used that for a while too. AutoZone has it around here but for like an extra $5 a gallon for some reason.

I've used the Pennzoil, Walmarts "special", Evinrude TCW-2(smokes a little more), Yamaha and Mercury oils on all of my engines from the early 50's Mercury 4 bangers, OMC 2 bangers (55hp)and 3 bangers (70hp) from the 60's and the newer Merc V-6's with never a problem. I do mix at 40:1 on the older fishing engines and a little richer when I plan on running the V6's over 7000.

thanks, 40/1 does not lower octane too much? i would rather lose H.P. than a cylinder. Lol. Jim

It would be a totally insignificant and probably not measurable change in octane to go from 50:1 to 40:1

Nobody that I know loses H.P. by adding oil to the mixture. We used to run 12:1 (old 2 cycle oil)on the old racing engines and they ran fast and stayed together. The newer V6s run well at 25:1 (TCW-3)and run for long 3 and 4 hour stretches at WOT during the Parker Enduro, again nobody claims a loss of H.P. from running rich on oil. Are you sure your octane rating goes down when you add oil to the mixture? some say it actually goes up! I'm outta this one but there have been a lot of posts on this subject. Rod

Wow, a few guys i know said that, and i believed them, that is good news! i think if running my motors hard, i will try 40/1 do they foul easy we have few half hour slow no wakes, and then wide open stretches of water.

At 40:1 you will not even notice the difference. If your engine ignition system and carburetion system is working properly you will not foul plugs on a long idle out--not to worry!

Thanks, i just was worried, cause we have huge slow no wake zones, then no speed limit stretches, and Merc had idle at 100:1 so i thought more in slow no wakes would foul, thanks! for extra safety i will run 40/1 this season. JIM

I've seen articles on some of the 2 stroke ATV sites that say you gain hp by adding oil (to a point) and had dyno numbers to prove it.
