Ronnie, Hydrostream boats was supposed to be building the Virage again with some changes. I had a feeling you didnt start doing yours yet. I was talking with Jeff about my old boat and its got me itching for photos.

Love em' or hate em'... Hydrostreams use of transition flake and multi-colored layups like those Virages wear, along with Howard's styling and design concepts that still look unique and futuristic, were "signatures"! Boats that still can be seen from clear across the lake!! Timeless and cool.
Those colors are GREAT! Although, I like the colors of the Virage that I sold to Alaska Streamin better.........;)

JW, I think that's the same color scheme that's on Big D's Virage. His is the first Hydrostream I ever really liked. That thing looks like a '70 Vette coming at you.
And it doesn't have that typical Hydrostream "aim for the moon" stance. If I could get my hands on one, I would.

I'm sure the 20'ers will be nice. The Virages sure do good in the rough stuff but you can only do so much with 18'. My 89 Turbo (JW's old one) has the bottom like the one on the left. Man how can you get tired of this????? Oh yea,... and look at the freeboard!! :D

Thanks Skydog!! After riding in Helmuts Virage / 260 (the one on the right)or is that one Mark's?, I fell in love with these hulls. I was fortunate to find JW's as these are hard to find especially one that's mint. I had to go to Michigain to get it. Talk about a road trip!! If you have time, here's the article;

I was getting low 70's with the 150, mid 80's with a 2.4 200, 104 with a 260, and am in the high 90's with a 225 ProMax.
Sands, Hey buddy where have you been??? Us Virage owners are like the red headed step children of Hydrostream.(Not many of us). PLEASE go to the IHR (www.hydrostream.org) and get registered (it's free), send Mark some pictures of your rig with some info. Surf the site, There is more info there and his tech column is written by Randy Pierson. He worked with Pipcorn on the Virage hull. The story is listed in the tech section. Untill I can see your info on the IHR, post some pictures and info ie: what year, power, speed. Welcome aboard!!

That was the best shot I had showing the difference in the bottoms. I have also seen a third design which had no cut outs at the rear sponson. I dont have a pic though. I think thats what the stage 1, 2,and 3 was all about. heres another running shot.

Thanks Jason
Skydog it will do low 100? with 2 peaple 260 with a mod 28 chopper. I will get gps this weekend to verify.
I have been here in the back ground for about 6 months just taking in all the good info. hydrostream.org is what got me on the quest to own one I fegured atleast few years. AlaskaStreamin I have been following your soties for the past 2 years. The more I read the more I like the virage but to find one. Well last November looking at classafied adds linked to hydrostream.org I emailed about a virage just to see what the price was and were the boat was. After few emails I had an address that was only 5 miles from work, 2 weeks later that boat was mine.
It is a 1989 virage stage 2 bottom with a 96 Merc 260 off shore and CLE lower.
Here is a pic of the back of the boat. O and it has gold met around the blue.
Thanks stvhlem.

Never' seen that used w/the blue before - looks ! My understanding is that Howard often messed around with "limited run" kinds of things. Often when they liked the look of a given color-scheme or layup, they would build a few more and call them "Limited Edition" boats. Dont' know if they ever did this w/ any Virages... Helmut, Ron P. or one of the other Stream-Guru's out here may know. ;)

Sands, Did you get your boat from Shawn Muir?? He had a blue one that was going to be up for sale. Nice looking boat!!!! If you need any info on the Virage as far as the ultimate set-up, STV Helm is the man!!!! He's gotten 115 mph out of his old Virage / 260.
Here's another stripe scheme. There is a twin to this one also. I got this one from the members pictures on the IHR. Pretty cool!! I've never heard of the gold though.
Sands, are you the Steve from Texas?? I saw what appears to be your boat here.http://www.hydrostream.org/Members/Members2.htm

Yes that is my boat but the pic were the same ones Shawn submited I have not sent any updated pic.

Hi Guys , I bought the '89 Virage on the top of this post (on the left) . I'll have to run my '98 150 ProMax SS on it for a while . A 225 PM will be in the near future . I'll run 10" of setback (8" Bobs plate and 2" SS mid) Any ideas on props and prop shaft height ? Do you think I'll hit 80 mph ? The motor has run 91 on my Vector .
Ron , what kind of 150 did you run on yours ?
Thanks ., Rich Owen

Rich,
I was getting 70 mph with two 200# people in the boat (I was one of the two). This was with a '94 2.5L EFI 150 (xri). The motor was mounted right on the transom with the stock lower unit running a 25P four blade thru-hub prop.
With a CLE and 7" of setback I got 85 mph with a 2.4 200.
I'm sure you'll love the perf when you move up to the 225 PM. The 260 I had was overkill for family cruising. Now with 40 amp charging, I get to blast the stereo and cruise around all day. And I only gave up 8 mph!
Mark Soliman (Frequent Flyer) went to a PM after blowing up 260's on his Virage and lost only 6 mph. He's the one that got me into the "tamer" motors.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, I know about that one. I've talked to him, I'm waiting for him to send me some photos. I really prefer a Turbo though unless the price is really right on a regular bottom.
