3.0 l merc lower unit

will a gear set and drive shaft from a stock 3.0l lower unit fit into a 3.0l sport master case any info will help thank you:cheers:

I know we machine driveshafts to use in sportmasters off 2.5's not sure about the 3.0 models but it's likely the same and if it is it only requires machining the drive shaft for the double reversed cone bearings. The reverse gear inside diameter is also different and may require machining also as it does on a 2.5.

You might have to open up the reverse gear. Are you looking to use the fishing prop shaft? Thats when things get interesting.

Beef's 3.0 sporty has fleetmaster guts and a sporty carrier.

what year gear case???? some had big forward bearing but they were really early models there are a lot of SEI parts that are floating around now and if you aint really savy on lower units you get a new tattoo:eek: reverse gear is too small id must be at least 1.45 ISD and there is always the forward gear issue with the different small bearing among other things thread lightly

Oh yeah even this comes into play all 3.0 fishing mota case dont use the same guts there are several case numbers along with several gear set numbers they dont interchange
