Probably a good time to be buyin' oil company stock. Seems like anytime there's an excuse they start the price gouging. I'm pleased with W's overall performance, but disappointed that he hasn't come with an energy policy to keep big oil from stealing us blind. It's gonna be interesting to see their 1st and 2nd quarter profits when they post.

Here in High Springs and Gainesville, gas is from 1.75 to 1.79 for low grade!! They are definatly jacking up the price for no reason. About 4 months ago they found a pocket of oil that had more oil in this one spot then all the other major oil fields combined!! This time last year, gas was 1.12 here.

in 91 shortly after the war started oil dropped to 15$ a barrel, the oil co's took a bath, don't think stocks in oil today would be all that great in the months to come. i'm thinkin Kmart, Joe Boxer may bring um up. i herd a while back it was .09 a share. lets see, 1000 shares, it goes to a buck a share, i'm rich! diesel is now 1.82 here i burn 2-3 hun gal a week, their expecting 2 per gal soon, JUST DAMN! fun out.

About $1.75 here for regular, but it seems to jump from $1.65 to $1.75. I usually run Clark but the people who work their stations are extreme low life lately and their gas is ****.....so I'm running BP now. Might as well buy the good stuff because every time the prices go up there doesn't seem to be much difference in price. I haven't run Clark in the boat for a couple years. Was running Citgo, and now word has it they did something with additives to their gas that's causing problems, so I guess the boat will be visiting the new BP we got in town too.

$1.55 gal reg-$1.75 gal 93 octane. if you can get it, it is cheap!
talk to the people in calif. about drilling off shore, it could help prices. La. supplies 20% of the nations fuel, should we be the only ones to have to deal with pollution?

Fun, somebody's got to explain to me how when the price of oil drops the oil co's take a bath. There're extremely quick to raise prices when there's any cloud on the horizon, but slow to lower when their actual costs go down. Not being an oil economist, it looks to me like they make more money in both directions on any fluctuation.

the point i got was a caller was trying to make the war for oil comparison in reguards to Cheany, and his reply was it dropped which i guess made their investments from other regions, domestic, mexico, etc. less valuable even though they paid pre war prices for them. if i'm following correctly as arabian oil becomes plentiful and lower priced than their investment in other sources, it has a loss the has to be absorbed by us "commoners" thus a stock depreation or value based on holdings at the time. maby i'm wrong, it's happened once or twice before. ;) fun out.

Since the fuel sold today was bought at barrel prices from 6
months ago ... Then barrel price today is sold in September then they is still makin loot . Right ????
Dats why oil guys are politicians .... just plain crooked !!!
But us guys are always there to pay ' em

Problem is much of that market runs on futures for oil and not oil itself. So if the price goes up and Bush cuts loose some reserves, somebody already bought at the high price and we get hosed. I know the real oil price per barrel is quite high right now.

Regular has been holding at $1.61 at the Sunoco stations here for a couple weeks. Bought gas in Kingsland, GA last Thursday for $1.45. It was $1.63 in Savannah that morning.
Sunoco does have "Oxygenators", so I buy boat gas at Chevron. They say they don't.

$4.50 a Gal for Sunoco 110 octain!
It's all realative!;)

03-13-2003, 08:21 AM
Regular is 80 cents plus a litre has been up to 82.5. 4 litres to a US gal 4.5 to a CDN gal. $3.20 a gal. CDN about $2.00 a gal. We get gouged 10 cent a litre more for 92 octane.
We get screwed for gas up here. I could be using my 15 hp Evinrude alot more this summer. Don't even want to think about fuel prices on any lake this summer.
I hope they fix this thing FAST.
Sorry Dog

There're extremely quick to raise prices when there's any cloud on the horizon, but slow to lower when their actual costs go down. Not being an oil economist, it looks to me like they make more money in both directions on any fluctuation.
Certainly they are posting bigger revenues right now, but I'm not sure they make out like bandits when it goes the other way. I guess it would mostly depend on your position and what category of the industry you are in.
When people way "oil companies" they are commonly refering to the fully integrated oil giants like BP/Amoco, etc, but they are many companies that just play one side of the deal. You exploration companies, production companies, both (E&P companies), distribution companies, refiners, traders (crude & product markets), storage, and retail markets. I worked at Unocal on their trading floor for a summer a few years back and at that time they were calling themselves a "pure play" companies meaning they concentrated mainly E&P. They had sold off all refineries and retail outlets 2 years before I got there. At that time a barrel of west texas intermediate was between 10.50 and 14. At that time Unocal was getting much of their oil from offshore fields around Myanmar, and I don't remember specific numbers but it costs around 11-12 to get a barrel to a distribution point. Since that isn't exactly making money, traders on floor would hedge against this but the hedge was much smaller than what was being lost on the production side. They Saudis at the time were still making some money since it was estimated that they could dump oil on our market for around$7-8 dollars.
The refiners at the time were losing their ass since the market was flooded with cheap oil they were working OT to process it which flooded the market with products and gas was trading under $.40 and you saw $.95 pump prices.
Basically I'm saying that it is a very cyclical market with a lot of players in different positions that have little control over the economics of it. I'm sure the giants can try to swing it one way or another, but I imagine that it is not in their interest for prices to be much higher than they are not or the reduced quantities for sale would erode their revenues. The rags head probably have more control than anybody else over it.

I got a question that know one can seem to answer, Federal Law says that a gas company can't sell gas for less than they pay for it. No problem, fair trade and all, well, in my neck of the woods you can buy gas from Sams club, and for premium its consistantly 10-20 cents a gallon CHEAPER than all of the regular gas stations. Now I can see sams selling it at cost, and stations marking up a little, but crap, .20 cents? damn, on a 20 gallon fill up thats $4.00, per car, every day. What gives? and while were at it how come when the price of oil drops the prices NEVER return to where they were?

It is ranging from $1.60s to the $1.70s.
VP Race fuel is still $3.99 a gallon.
I stay away from 100LL av gas. It's made for airplanes.
Rob, be sure to jet up if you're running av gas. I know it will lean out a drag car if you have decent compression, so I'm sure it's the same with outboards.

Thanks for the tip. Feel like we got a pretty good setup for it... I've been running AVGAS in mine, since 96, and running AVGAS in the LASER since 90.... We've really not had any problems running it so, who knows....
I don't know what size jets most people are running, but I run between 74-78's and the Laser is running 82-86, with a cross drilled manifold..It just depends on what the temp & dewpoints are, as to what and how hard we run'em...
Brian, are you still in Ohio, or in Florida?
