I am a newbie looking for a little direction. I bought a 89 Hydrostream V-King this summer. I'm new to the high performance outboard world so this forum has been a wealth of knowledge for me. I recently dinged a prop and broke the skeg (don't know how, never hit/felt anything) so I am in the market to try a new prop before the boating ends.
I have a 93 2.5l mercury offshore motor. The owner I bought it from said it was rebuilt with some mild head work that he guessed put it around 230 -240 hp. Never been dynoed. It has a manual jackplate that has prop shaft 1/2 in above pad. Set back is about 3" although I just realized I have never actually measured it.
Current prop is a 30p quicksilver. Not sure of the diameter. Best I have seen is 77 mph just under 6k rpm. But I know it has more. I just can't get past the boat dancing around. I know seat time and learning the trim over time is helping. My first high speed was 72, then 73, 75, then 77.8. What a rush! Now, however, I am down till I get my prop and skeg fixed, skeg is on the way, but I'm not sure where to send the prop for repair (dah maybe? I dont trust the local prop guys) and I would like to try a different prop. Maybe something that doesn't let the boat chine walk so much. So any help you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
I attached some pics of my current prop. Maybe someone knows a little more about what I have.

A 30 p hoss or 29p omc srx and I would see if you could try a 30p cleaver too all are good props for that hull. Make sure you have the steering cables adjusted tight, no play, and you should have solid motor mounts too. seat time is important.

I have seastar hydraulic steering. I have been looking for a 29 srx as that is was the former owner claimed 96 mph with. I don't know if I'll ever get there, but I would like to break 80 this year. Also, I've heard alot about hoss props. Which would be more stable for my hull, hoss or srx. Thanks for the reply.

Be prepared for the "welded skeg" posts to start

Big ear chopper, later A5. The 30 big ears have small ears than the rest of the big ears, which is probably good for your boat. If I was spending your money, I'd send it to DAH and tell them what your goals are. Then I'd master the chine walking with that prop before spending money on more props.
Hoss Tritons are good props, my best speed on my SS2000 was with a 31 Triton. A DAH 29 SRX is also a good prop. Some people get best solo speed in Vkings with cleavers, but by some accounts a cleaver isn't good for anything but top end on those boats.
If you want to maximize my benefit, shoot me a PM and I will sell you my 31 Triton and my stock 29 SRX.
If you want stability, try to find a 28" 4 blade without too much bow lift. 4 blades can be better for learning to drive.

Something is very wrong someplace, you should be mid 80's with that prop without breaking a sweat.
Diameter is 14 1/4" if it's not been modified.

Agreed. Might want to check that core. Had the same boat with stock Omc 225 and got 87mph with a 27 DAH SRX at 6500 rpm.

I think its the driver. I definitely think it has mid 80s at least. I'm not comfortable yet with the side to side rocking that it starts doing. Then when I let off it gets worse for a split second. I have seen numerous videos of hydros doing this probably way worse then mine, but I can't drive through it yet. I can sometimes get it to settle down and thats when I get my best speed. Need more seat time!

Previous owner did new core, new floor. Reinforced transom added knees/stringers (I don't know all the correct terminology). He had extensive pics of all the work he did. Looked like he did a really nice job. It is solid.
I'm sure someone will suggest that a bunch of weight was added. Well I haven't weighed it yet, but he hit the 96 mph after all this work was done.
SEAT TIME SEAT TIME SEAT TIME!!!

Yea, you could just need to get comfortable with it before giving it some air. No reason to blow a bunch of money on props yet, what you have is fine. Make sure you tell Janaky to just restore the prop, don't be making changes until you figure out where you are with the thing.
What concerns me most is the comment about skeg damage. Welded skegs can make for a very bad day on the water.

I've been doing some research on the welded skeg thing. I get it. I thought it could be done if it was done right, not so much. I do some welding and I have welded cast aluminum so I understand what is going on. So I guess I'm in the market for a new lower or at least a new case.I'm still probably going to weld this skeg on so I can finish out the season. I fully understand the consequences and the risk that I'm taking. It broke on me once and I know what to expect.
So can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to find a case. Or if I wanted to put on like a sport master or CLE what exactly do I want to look for?

A little chine walking is normal. Going out of control due to violent side to side is not. Lay under the boat and spend some time studying the bottom. Use a straight pc of ell angle 4' long. String will also work. Biggest overlooked cause of handling is a motor mounted out of alignment imo. Check that also.
