I gave them the benefit of the doubt for this season but I now think they are ruining the class.
Formula 1 is supposed to be the most advanced technology on earth. At least it used to be and touted itself as such.
Now they've turned it into a green class. The electric motors (KERS) suck! They never work and due to the new design and it's complexity it takes the crew hrs to change an engine instead of mins like it used to.
They're also limited on fuel usage. They may say they turn the new turbo V-6's 15K but they don't. Anything over 11K and they don't have enough fuel to finish the race!
They've also changed the tire compounds so they only get 15 or so laps per set.
Soooooooooooooooo, the drivers have to short shift to save fuel, brake early to save tires, and be easy on the KERS when it works just to finish the race.
It's no longer the fastest/best drivers winning the races, it's the crews/pit strategy and the drivers just along for the ride.
F-1 and the UIM are very tight lipped and enforce strict policing in what the teams say to the media but a few comments have made it through that the drivers don't like the new format.
Good news is Honda will be back next year so maybe the big bosses will listen. If not, I'll turn my back on them same as I did when they turned CART into a spec racer class.
That is a very cool video though.

I was lucky enough to see the v-10's twice,at Spa and Indy. And the V-8's at Indy. The sound in the stands at Indy at the start was unreal..

Cool vid, but "new" seems like a step backward, not forward.

I hear you on this. So they sorta took the eliteness of raw driver skill and power out to a point and made them have to be more finesse and intelligent driving for all the new components of the cars and equipment to adhere to what there aloud to use with all the new rules. like a chess game not dodge ball any more.:D

Damn right, and funny too.
To me turning F1 into Nascar crap. But on the "grease farts?" talking the Turbo? Thats that damn thing I can't stand too listen too when the waste gate opens.."blat". My Bro has raced Vintage 2 decades Last 2 rides were wood frame Morgan, last a 56 Alfa. Well, at 74 years old lunched the motor the Alfa, and said "enuf". But I've been with him many the "Vintage Races", diff tracks the US.
On the F1 seating? Yep, worlds fastest recliner and sat in one awhile back. Damn ya look at the "car"and wonder were the motor is! ULTIMATE GOKART! But that dash has WAY too many "buttons"! Lotta old school classics on show any Vintage event too, show offs! Try one!
But on the Turbo? This me from 1991 when he raced here, then SIR, then OR PIR. Well, PIR race course races clockwise. Has all the stands on the start line, drag strip. For a road race a right into the woods, and can't hear any. Minute later, here they come! Wide sweeper back to the drag strip. THATS when the Turbo rides "fart", 'till braking the turn.
Plus the pace car was the new "Viper".."woof!:D
Sorry, as I'm to old to learn or understand new BS rules shoved on a race that at one time was SO damn simple?:rolleyes:;)................"Run what ya Brung and fire it up!":

The rules in F1 were changed this year to make them "relevant" so smaller turbo with Kers is all about what manufacturers are selling today
The fuel rule is max flow
back to Can Am I say....

Very cool.
I promised to myself to not let the new sound taint my view of the new formula until watching some races and their lap times.
IMO, it pretty well sucks now.
On the engine sounds, we had the "Columbus 500" through the streets of down town Columbus for four yrs in the late '80's when IMSA was in it's hey day.
GTP (as you probably know) stood for Grand Touring Prototype. Basically an F-1 car w/a body.
The manufacturers in their hey day then were, Porsche 962's (although at their end and trying to make the twin turbo cars competitive) , Nissan 300's (ruled late), Ford Probes, Corvettes annnnnnddddddd the "Jagua's".
Although the Jags were the slowest, the sound of their V-12's shrieking off the sky scrapers was incredible!
I guess I'm just old. I say screw being responsible in at least one class of racing.
The wife and I opened a savings account at our new "local" branch yesterday and I noticed they had three parking spots marked for "hybrids".
I will take great pride and pleasure in parking my '97 Chevy Z-71 hybrid in one of them when I go back today ;)
The wife just shook her head when I told her of my plans.
