The obvious question....what's up with the skeg?

Sorry. Can you elaborate?

I don't have a picture of it so I just grabbed this old photo of my boat. Other than it needs to be cleaned up, is there something amiss?

Looks like a bunch of the skeg is missing

Not sure about that.... it has a very fine edge on it. I'll get some better photos of it to post.

Here's a better picture of it as it sits in the garage.

It looks new other than it's not as shiny as it once was. None of the skeg is missing.

Believe selling thus one violates the forum rules.. Case has had some abuse or run aground

Factory sporty skeg measures 10 1/4" at the root and 6" across the bottom. Not trying to pot stir on your F/S thread but that skeg has obviously been trimmed at some point. Not saying it doesn't still have some significant value but most guys that run these, including myself, want a stock skeg as a starting point.

Just list it as a omc mod sport master :D

JacksonBean....That skeg has LOTS of material missing from the leading edge for some reason, just look at transomstand posted picture that is what unmolested original skeg should look like.

Oh, I see the difference now. Sorry, I don't know much about this stuff. My brother races in the Deep South Drag Racing circuit and bought a salt water 280 on here a few years back and didn't need the lower. I put it on my bass boat and have been running it for years and have never hit anything. Obviously the previous owner modified it in some way. It added a few mph to my bass boat and has never given me one bit of trouble. I have it serviced every year at Chandler's Landing and have the service records to show. My intention isn't to defraud anyone. Thanks for taking the time to post the photos. It's obvious now that this one has been altered. I will post pics of both sides tomorrow. I will vouch for it being sound mechanically with a 100% money back guarantee if it's not everything the buyer is expecting.

Thanks guys.

Jackson

Sometimes they cut the CLE or Sporty skeg to the 200 skeg shape, but this looks different, like a chunked leading edge was simply filed away, or the skeg was modded 200-style without trimming back the root in typical fashion.

Jackson, good response and history. Also good offering money back if buyer not satisfied.
If you or a buyer send it to someone like Titus or JC they may be able to fix/mod/clean that skeg for a certain application as long as it is not damaged. GL.

Once again, thanks for the education. I called my brother and asked him about it. He told me that he purchased the complete 280 from a guy who had done quite a bit of tweaking to the set up.

Here are both sides of the unit...

To those that have made offers, thank you, but I'm going to hold out for $2,000.

Best,
