Here I want to show you an old Italian race outboard...
This "made in Italy" creature is called Selva, that outboard is about of the years '70s... It is almost 400 cc, it is able to catch 7000-8000 rpm.
Was used to compete in the class called OCN, that small boats that crazy pilot drove on their knees.
Selva was quite famous because was the lighter and the faster of that class.

Very cool pics Jen! Selva picked up the banner for Italy when Carniti faded from the racing scene. If you have any more pics of race motors, please post them!
Selva is a major parts manufacturer to other outboard manufacturers and in addition to their own motors, casts at least some parts of almost every brand of outboard made in Europe ... when you have the market cornered for what you do, everyone knocks on your door.
I believe this is a 1,000cc Selva race motor of current or near current production.

Looks like they may have gotten their exhaust and lower unit design ideas from the Merc BP?

Thank you Mr Fun!
Maybe, your friend's Mercury is something like this (even if this is 4 cylinder)?

Yes! You're perfectly right about Selva!
The picture you have found was of a Formula 1000 International, I raced in that class also!
But now that class is dying... it's taking plave the Formula 4 with the Mercury 4 stroke.
And the Selva was purchased largely by yamaha.
I have another Selva, that had won a World Championship, many years ago...a 750 cc.
I will post the picture!
This was my F.1000 :p

Chop off the "an" just Romani I think that's the last version - the first outboard to exceed 100 mph
Too bad its not on an appropriate boat :nonod:

In the US we were hoping that F 1000 would flourish and F 1000 motors might come to the US and help with the shortage of racing motors here.
Sad to hear it died out.
Please try to attach the picture of your F.1000 again, there seems to be a problem with the first attempt.
