I decided to stop by automatic car wash on the way home to keep my truck clean. On the way through the wash one of the hydraulic lines that spin the brushes burst and absolutely covered my new truck top to bottom in hydraulic oil. I mean every square inch of paint is covered. They tried to wash it off by hand but it still looks like crap. What do I do? Should I fill out a police report and turn it into insurance? How the heck do I get this stuff off? It can't be good for the paint.

Dawn dish soap . Na will not hurt if left on . Have covered more then one truck with hdy fluid running dump trailer when the wet line let's go ... Steam with degreaser works good to

Make sure it's the concentrated Dawn, not the cheap stuff. A mixture of purple power and ultra concentrated dawn in a spray bottle is my favorite degreaser.....

Don't forget to put wax on it after you get it cleaned up. The detergent will remove all of it.

Ok thanks. That makes me feel better about it not damaging the paint. I'm just used to dealing with aircraft hydraulic fluid which is highly damaging to paint. I've still got a godawful mess on my hands to clean up and I'm putting a call into the car wash headquarters to see what they are going to do for me because I feel like they owe me something. I'm toying with the idea of dropping it off at a detailer and sending them the bill. I just don't have time to spend cleaning this mess up. I mean there is oil down in the window channels and everything. It took forever just to clean the windows enough so I could see to go home.

I'd at least find out what hyd. oil they use and get an MSDS on that oil. The MSDS will list the ingredients in the oil. That way you could go by the dealership paint shop and see if anything in the oil could damage the paint. Don't auto manufacturers use water based paint now?
Like others have posted it shouldn't hurt the paint but better safe than sorry.

Call your insurance company and let them take care of it. Thats what we pay rates for.

Nooooooo don't make your own insurance pay for it, make the carwash owners' insurance pay for it....let his premiums go up, not yours...........

Had the exact same thing happen to my truck at a car wash, a couple hours with dawn and had to wax it after.
