Posted this on another thread and thought some of you might find it interesting too.
On the cowling gasket where it seals to the lower pan, I figured out how to change it's color when doing the FrankenRude project.
Motor came out looking good in obnoxious red paint :D but the seal was still white and I couldn't figure out what to do with it.
Gets beat ariound too much to hold paint??
I dyed it in clothing dye. Worked like a bitch!
The OMC's are stapled to the cowl but if you're careful (it is a pain in the ass) you can pull em and re-use the same ones.
I scrubbed the seal in scalding (I know this to be true) hot water with a nylon brush to get the 20 years of funk out of the inner lip so it didi'nt bleed through.
Boiled it for I think 20 mins?? What ever is said on the box of dye.
Only trick is to use something to weight the seal down (it floats) as it boil's so it dyes evenly.
It is on motor in the pic bellow. (sorry for the poor quality)

It looks like the dye matched perfect too . Think i'm gonna give that a whirl on my Stinger cowling seal . Only problem is I already
painted the original :rolleyes:

Just have to scarf up anotha outa da pile of parts ;)
