I have started the report on the restoration of the Ron Jones ET boat that will stomp Mr. Warby back down under at Rumble III on the By-U-Boyz site.

I have lost the original picture posted here on S & F that started me off on this project. If anybody has a copy, I would really appreciate getting in back on my computer.

Thanks

Dennis

You the man I need to talk to..lol
On redoing the hull .. You said........

This is the first coat of a primer specially made for fiberglass. It goes on thick and melts into the glass.

I "NEED " to know what that stuff is.. Brand, etc..
I have a couple of hulls, redoing.. And that sounds like the type of Primer/sealer I'm looking for..

As for the picture, what does it look like, I may have it saved on a CD. I'll check..

Thanks for any Info.. Later Larry

very cool! i followed ET tunnels all thru the 70's and early 80's. i think this a just bad to the bone! Bob Nordsgog had one that he just absolutly SPANKED everybody at the parker 9 hr enduro with! whats the history of the hull? Ron Jones was the pioneer in that era, he built alot of the unlimited boats, mrs bud etc. you had to be a millionare to have one of those then, you have really got a piece of history! i predicted that they would kick some serious butt offshore someday, (i designed one) and was told by the offshore writer for POWERBOAT mag at the time, John Crouse, in his family room that it woud never work, they catch too much air. bwahahha. look at the offshore world today. this was 1977. any way best of luck, keep us posted! fun out. :p

I will get the name of that primer today. Just shot the final coat on the deck yesterday. Gelcoat by the weekend. The pic is like the one of the number 2 Ron Jones boat in the article. Sitting on the trailer. It is red and white and has the wing installed.

Bob's is the only other Ron Jones ET left. It is in his museum in California. You should have stuck to your guns. Instead of Skaters we would have Funers. I wll keep updating the project. I am aiming for the Tickfaw 200 poker run on May 4 as the maiden outing. The clock is ticking.

i watched as the first "Douglas Skaters" came out and was not impressed, ever see one today? they were about 18', just stupid looking, i remember the squared molded fiberglass seats. the damn things looked fiat x19 electric razor just damn wrong. they eventually grew and as they say, you can't knock success, unless you can improve on it. i'm still pluggin away, they'll be out someday, so all i can take comfort in is the groundwork has been laid. it takes a bunch of cake to do it from scratch, or take in partners or investors, then the whole vibe gets distorted. i guess as a lifes work, if i'm able to pull it off, i'll be satisfied. got some pics? best of luck!!!!!!!!!!! fun out. :p
