One of my brothers is having trouble withe his Honda 90 - I know nothing about the Hondas.
The starter bendix spins a ring gear at the bottom of the powerhead from what he tells me - I haven't even seen it.
Had to replace a starter under warranty last week - the old one was corroded.
I can't seem to find much info on why this would happen - brother says the cowling seals are tight.
The starter sits down into a cavity of some sort, I'm guessing there may be a seal for the drive shaft that may be letting water up in to the starter cavity?
Any one have any knowledge on these?
I know it's not a "screamer n flyer" performance engine, any input is appreciated.

Yea, common failure. H20 enters starter between solenoid and field frame. water typically comes from leakage at thermo cover and exhaust manifold cooling hoses. Some cases of cracked blocks and heads do exist. Have new starter lubed well. Thanks Martin

Thanks!
Are there any service campaigns by Honda that should be done?
