Did you use the OMC Rod Assembly Fixture to install the rod bolts?

What RPM were you turning it?
The 99 had small rods.
What was the piston to cyl clearance and what temp were you running it at? Any sign of the piston sticking?

If it's been blown a few times did you replace the rods on the holes that blew?
New brp long rods have 3/8 bolts like the 3.3/3.4 short rod

99 would have the light long rods, I would be using the big rods if racing. The 5/16 bolts on the old big rod are fine we have run them well past 9k. If the bolts broke either the bearing was sliding/came apart or rod cap was bad. If the piston is damaged could be another story.

5/16 bolts i think you are right it has opened up the rod cap and bottem of the rod so both halfs are flat
i have been given this omc part number for a better rod 18-4148-1 does anyone know what these are out of cheers

Tim measure the rod for us so we know what you have.

What is there to measure? It has to be long/small rod from 99. It wont rotate with short rods.

up date gave up on that block i have over time put 4 liners in it only one was piston broken the rest were overheat from water pick up issues
took it to the scrap metal man last weekend
so will look at whats left and decide what to do
i have a 225 fitch 3.3 liter block with a custom made front half with 6 x 235 twin throat carbs and 7 petal merc reed blocks -which i cooked as well
so i have stripped this and it not to bad so am taking it to the guy who built it to locate correct parts to fix and will run this will post photos when back together next month thanks for the advise cheers
