I know somebody selling a freshly rebuilt (0 hrs runtime), impeccably clean 85ish 235 for $1200 (with some wiggle room there). I have researched them until im blue in the face and feel that I know at least a little about them now. I need to find out what heads are on the motor for sure. $1200 sure is appealing.... then later down the road after the restoration is behind me and $$ frees up I can get something more powerful and not lose too much $$
thoughts? would I really regret going with the older, crank rated motor?

I'm not sure why I'm actually saying this but here goes:
With as light as that boat will turn out I think you'll be plenty happy with the performance. The crossflow's were decent motors and can run well. Once you get tired of playing around you can bump up your adrenaline rush with something newer.
Now that that's over, once you go black you never go back....................... The price is hard to beat though.

Your gonna have to keep fresh clean gas in it good oil and watch rpms but if indeed it is rebuilt you should be able like you say to play and resell and have little cost.

Nothing wrong with those old X-flows. Yes there are faster engines around but not for 1,200 bucks. X-flows are light weight to. When and if you decide to encrease hp the x-flow can be made into a real runner as well. Lots of tricks can be done to those motors. Run 93 octain fuel.

Coupe secretly yearns for a Crossflow! He's rode along side of one for so long now, he's goin through separation anxiety since I've taken the crossflow off mine and put the Looper on my Laser.
