Don't miss the Rondak Romp in June here in upstate NY. It's posted in the events section. It's always good to have a Corpsman around.

Is that a 25" shaft on that motor?? Didn't think it was but it sure looks like it??
If it is, that (extra height, leverage, and torque on motor board)coupled with the 550 lb weight of the 8 on that boat means you have a boat load of re-inforcing to do (even if it is a 20" motor).

Nothing against the CVX, I had one and it clearly was decades ahead of the styling of its day. One of my favorite boats as far as the styling.
Can't remember the year of mine but it was a mostly chopper gun boat. I would have been very nervous about adding 100 Hp's, and 150 lbs of weight to the transom of mine.
I'm sure you have done your home work and know what your doing, just be very carefull with that beast hanging on the back of there.
Good Luck,
Gary

And, YES, there is much work to be done! But I really want to maintain the external authenticity of the CVX. The complele reman of the stern well include strong ties to the mid rails and four new "ski" loops, two on each side, to secure the sides to the back. I'm really open to any "engineering" ideas.
Thanks,

Shorten the mid as far as you can get away with it. The shorter it is, the less torque it will transmit to the top of the motor board.
You need to build "knees" and glass them to the motor board, the bottom of the spill well and to the floor/stringers.
Can't remember if that boat even has more than 2 stringers in it??
You might be able to leave the bow tank in place to help off set the weight of the motor.
I moved mine to the stern but my motor was 150 lbs lighter than yours.
Take and post some pixs of the area under the spill well and in front of the transom/motor board. Can't remember the exaxt lay out, was 15 yrs ago when I had mine.
The one thing that design has going for it is all the glass in the deck around the transom.
This will really help tie the boat together. I would also check the deck to hull joint ethod. Alsmost assuradly pop riveted.
I would glass it to have a hope in hell of holding that monster on there.
How is the floor, motor board??
If it is soft/spongy now, it will be destroyed in no time under the load/weight of that motor.
Be glad to help how ever I can.
If you do you're home work and are carefull, you should be able to do everything w/o effecting the lines. Possible exposed tie bars from top of motor board to front of spill well being the only thing visible??
Will be a vey unique classic when you get it done, but I can't strees enough how much re-inforcing you need to look at for that motor.
